FFRK - In The Face Of Tyranny (II) Event & Strategies

Contrary to popular belief...Guy only speaks beaver. Take that as you will.

"Friends, do not fall for their tricks!" - Firion
"A would be rebel...chasing dreams..." - Emperor Mateus

The rebel army plans an attack on Fynn and encamps outside the town. Firion, Maria, Guy and Leila lead the attack and defeat the imperial castellan, Gottos, earning the rebels an important victory. Minwu and the Ultima Tome are nowhere to be found so Hilda instructs the party to look for him and retrieve the Tome from the Mysidian Tower.

After obtaining the Crystal Rod from the trials on the Tropical Island, the party heads for the Tower, only to be swallowed by the Leviathan. Shipwrecked and separated from Leila, the party works its way from Leviathan's innards to the mouth, where, with the help of Ricard Highwind the Dragoon, they retake the ship by defeating a Roundworm. They head for the Tower with Ricard, best the Fire Gigas, Ice Gigas and the Thunder Gigas and find Minwu at the Chamber of the Seal. He has been waiting for Firion's group to arrive; once they are there, he uses his life force to break the seal.

The party takes Ultima and returns to Fynn, but discover the towns of Altair, Gatrea, Paloom and Poft have been destroyed by a mysterious force known as the Cyclone. It threatens to tear the world asunder if the party cannot figure out how to stop it. Hilda explains a pendant can be used to call wyverns in the chamber at the top of the castle, and Paul gives them the item. The pendant calls the young wyvern that was hatched at Deist, and they fly it into the Cyclone.

They infiltrate the fortress inside the storm and defeat the Emperor. A victory celebration is held at Fynn, but it is interrupted by the news that the Dark Knight is Maria's long-lost brother Leon, who has crowned himself Emperor. Cid, dying after the attack on Paloom, gives the party his airship, and they fly to Palamecia. Leon refuses Maria's pleas and prepares to battle, but the Emperor returns from Hell, now more powerful than ever, and reveals his intentions of bringing Hell to Earth, no longer caring about ruling Palamecia. Ricard sacrifices himself in battle against the Emperor so that the others can escape on the Wyvern.

    Relics

This is the big earth event before next fest and Type-0; dealing with more of a magical earth offering for Maria and Mateus' continued transition from wind to earth.

It does have good +earth items, but many are tied to uncommon weapon types in bows and axes, along with some armor and rods.

Minwu becomes our 2nd real offensive white mage here as well to join Rem (whose stuff return shortly as well), so there is that to consider as well.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/FFRecordKee...earth_banners/

It's your choice if pulling for earth now, on Type-0, the earth pickup, or wait until fest. Fest may have the best quality banner overall, but that doesn't necessitate earth.

Dark is an afterthought here, but Leon benefits greatly from him LMR in a sea of physical dark users.

    Ultra EX/Chase Type Glossary:
    Spoiler: show
    Rules of thumb:
    1. Stat buffs from the EX mode have a unique ID and will stack with everything.
    2. Many USB’s come with a built in class damage boost. These are separate from the iteration class boosts and do stack.
    3. EX modes last 15 seconds, while buffs provided by the USB entry last 25 seconds. (Terra is an exception, with her EX Mode lasting 25 seconds).

    Special Effects:
    • General Boost: These can be anything specifically tied to the EX Mode - HP Stock, Crit Fix, Cast Speed, Ability Boost, Stat buffs, and even Break Damage Limit. This will stack with every other buff on the user, including other EX Modes.
    • Rank Boost: This provides a damage boost scaling with the rank of the ability used. The boost starts out at ~5% for R1 increasing to ~30% for R5+.
    • Chase: Follow up attack(s) triggered by using abilities of a specific element or school while under the EX Mode. The number of these chase attacks can be random, reliant on the rank of the ability used (Rank Chase) or status of the user (Status Chase).
    • Cycle: Unit receives a quickcast or instacast charge when using abilities tied to a specific element or school – generally meant to be used in repetition for maximum effect.
    • Build Up: A gradient damage boost toward a specific ability school based on the number of ability uses from the start of the battle to when the EX mode is applied. This buff is not tied to EX mode duration, and will persist whenever the EX mode is active.

**This mode has a similar function found in SB's like Onion Knight's Ninja USB. Instead of a damage boost, however, OK will decrease the cast time of his actions for every action taken. Unlike the damage boost variant, it is tied to the EX mode but can retain the buildup if the USB is recast before fading.

    • Wind Up: Generally applying to Summoners, this will provide additional damage based on the sum total of all type (class or element) damage done during EX mode when the mode expires. The unique aspect of this is that a recast of the USB will count toward the exit damage of the previous EX mode.
    • Phantom Cast: This effect will auto cast an attack every few second at a set rate independent of the character. The number of attacks or potency is not reliant on any outside factors (Haste, Slow, QC) and will generally produce 4 actions per EX Mode.
    • Cheer: This will grant a party wide effect after using a triggering ability. For example, Marche will triple the cast speed of every front row party member (himself included) for 1 turn after he uses a Knight ability.
    • Ability Double: This will guarantee that an ability will cast 2 times per use at the cost of 2 hones. The first cast can trigger appropriate W-Cast materia for a total of 3 hits, but the additional hits will not generate SB gauge.

    Banner 1:

Maria's USB keeps her earth centric focus, with 10x earth/non magic hits on entry with en-earth, a Mag/Def boost, and Ability Double for Black Magic. Her standard bearer BSB is here as well and can just as easily pump out good damage on the BSB alone.

Guy dams it up with 10x ST earth/non damage, en-earth (thankfully not an imperil), an odd Atk 30%/Def 50% boost, and Monk Ability Boost. His AoE imperil-earth BSB returns.

Minwu is still reliant on other sources for en-holy, but with his USB boosts he doesn't always need it. 10x ST holy/non entry, a beefy 50% Mnd boost, an additional White Magic boost, and White Magic Ability Double. Speaking of en-holy, thats in his BSB that shows up here.

Mateus' USB is old, but he gains a new earth focus BSB2 here. 8x ST earth/dark on entry with en-earth. C1 is a decent 4x earth/dark hit that will also double cast speed for 2 turns and C2 is a 2x earth/dark hit with Magic BD.

Leon's ancient, though somehow still decent, BSB returns to finish up B1.

    Banner 2:

A special note here is that Josef's LMR shield packs minor confuse, death, and stun resist in one package.

His USB keeps up the theme of his unfortunate destiny - Loudside + Last Stand and 2 charges of Quickcast. His 'halfway hero' VoF BSB returns here, with en-ice instead of haste.

Firion gets some new tech with a new USB. 10x ST holy/non damage with a needed en-holy and a EX mode similar to OK's pUSB - Atk+30% and a cast speed buildup. Like OK's USB, if you refresh the USB before it fades you will retain the buildup cast speed. His workhorse magic blink BSB returns here too.

    Returning Items:
    Gordon: USB, BSB
    Maria: OSB
Ricard: BSB (what else does he have to recur DeNa?!)
    Scott: BSB

    Legend Materias:
    • Banner 1 - Leon: Small chance to double cast Darkness abilities.
    • Banner 1 - Leon: Begin battle with en-earth.
    • Banner 1 - Guy: Moderate boost to physical attacks with an axe equipped.
    • Banner 1 - Minwu: Small chance to double cast White Magic abilities.
    • Banner 1 - Emperor: Trance: Full heal and 2x cast speed for 25 seconds.

    • Banner 2 - Josef: Begin battle with en-ice.
    • Banner 2 - Firion: Small chance to double cast Combat abilities.
    • Banner 2 - Gordon: Moderate increase to stat buff duration.
    • Banner 2 - Ricard: Begin battle with en-wind.
    • Banner 2 - Scott: Begin battle with en-fire.

    Weak: None

Notes: Entirely physical. Leave Shellga/MBD home.

Bring magic, lifesiphon, or 100% accuracy RM's for this fight because Blink XVI is a pain the the ass.

She can proc Confuse and Sleep with some regularity, and with her evasion/blink Affliction Break won't be much help. Pack a status blink and Ultra Cure.

    Much more annoying than dangerous.

    King of the Coliseum +

    • Reduce Behemoth's attack.

    Weak: None

    Resists: None
    Null: None
    Vulnerabilities: None

Notes: Mostly physical, but the one magic attack is potent enough you'll want at least Shellga.

Behemoth has a few weird quirks, including an AoE silence and a dispel that only removed protect. The protect removal is ST, and does not remove sentinel.

Cid Mission: Not much special here. Bring who you can/want, but for sure bring Minwu for healing.

There are a few Knights in II that can use Draw Fire reliably; Leon, Scott, and Guy can all self sustain with their respective classes so consider that.

Turn 2: Dispel XVI <Instant> (WHT: AoE - 100% chance of Dispel)
Turn 3: Slow XVI <Instant> (WHT: AoE - 102% chance of Slow)

Turn 5+10n: Ultimate Blaze XVI (NAT: AoE - 420% Fire Magic Dmg, 303% chance of ATK+MAG Buff [-99% rate, 5s duration])
Turn 6: Ultimate Flare XVI (NAT: 570% NonElem Magic Dmg, 303% chance of RES Buff [-30% rate, 10s duration] - Targets random character without RES Buff)
Turn 7+5n: Ultimate Holy XVI (NAT: AoE - 430% Holy Magic Dmg, 303% chance of Imperil Holy [-20% resist, 90s duration])
Turn 8+5n: Holy XVI (WHT: AoE - 410% Holy Magic Dmg)
10% <Attack> (PHY: 344% Phys Dmg, Absorb 100% Dmg as HP) [Locked for 1 turn after last use]
25% Ultimate Flare XVI (NAT: 570% NonElem Magic Dmg, 303% chance of RES Buff [-30% rate, 10s duration] - Targets random character without RES Buff) [Locked for 2 turns after last use]
20% Holy XVI (WHT: AoE - 410% Holy Magic Dmg) [Locked for 1 turn after last use]
20% Blaze XVI (NAT: AoE - 390% Fire Magic Dmg) [Locked for 1 turn after last use]
25% Starfall XVI (NAT: AoE - 450% NonElem Magic Dmg) [Locked for 4 turns after last use]

Notes: Almost entirely magical. A back row party can forget Protect, but anyone in the front row may want it.

This time Elixir only heals 99,999 HP, but thats still a good amount.

You can get some relief from the slow, as dispelling his haste is not worth it. Hit him with reflect, and he will then bounce the haste casts off him and onto you. The scripted dispel is also just a normal dispel.

Do watch out for Ultimate Blaze, as it carries a short lasting 99%Atk/Mag debuff on your team. Just wait it out.

His elements are holy and fire, and with slow being prevalent you may be better mitigating against the damage, especially if you start receiving his haste casts via reflect.

Jump Start Notes: No changes from the A+ version.

Adding to the idea of saving for fest, if you are hesitant due to no earth 2.0 chain, it will debut on Bartz AOSB banner a few events after fest. Its also a beyond solid banner for Earth since it features Galuf chain 2.0, Galuf BSB2, Bartz AOSB, and Bartz USB2.
