    Router Recommendations

Looking into a new router due to several issues with my current netgear router. Wired routers prefereably, but may consider wireless for future expansion purposes. Should be able to handle 4 computers online simultaneously. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

will be served at the conclusion of this thread.

Any $50~80 will do, netgear, linksys, or dlink will do fine.
No reason not to go wireless now, not like it costs extra really.

Looking at http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCategory ... ss-Routers randomly and going to http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLi ... er=REVIEWS the first 3 will do fine, I actually bought an older model of the 2nd one (might be the same model) 3 years ago and it works fine.

Just got the WRT150N Linksys WirelessN Router, it's really nice, setup was a breeze, no connection problems at all, it also can do 4 wired connections as well, it was like 90$ from newegg

The WRT54GL is great if you use custom firmware.

    Re: Router Recommendations

To most all of the 4 port routers all you need to do is add a cheap switch (found a few SMC 8 port gigabit switches for around 69$ which are rated to be fairly reliable) and use a crossover cable to connect the switch to the router and you can add as many computers as you like to it. 255 for the DHCP limit of the original router, more if you setup additional DHCP servers somehow.

Can for example get a 24 or 48 port switch and plug it right in to most of them if you are looking to setup a home network.

Can use a Power Over Ethernet Switch if you want to do something a little more sofisticated like IP Phones with no additional power adapters and Wireless accesspoints (again with no additional power adapters).
