I think that his failure was intentional. It's more likely that this was just a publicity stunt, he will probably to do the "trick" again over the summer and next time break the record.

No, I don't really understand how he gets all this press for doing things like this. It is a publicity stunt and he just acts dramatic. I think he is just a failed actor that couldn't get into drama school at his local community college.
