    Treasure Hunter +1 Test Results

Following along with my Homam Corazza Test Results thread, I'll go ahead and make public the results of my Treasure Hunter testing.

    Here was the setup.

Mob Killed: Undisclosed, but all 3,017 mobs killed were the SAME mob in the SAME zone.
Number of times mob was killed: 3,017
Number of kills without Thief's Knife: 1,687
Number of kills with Thief's Knife: 1,330

    With Thief's Knife
    Drop 1:
    ---Number of Drops: 279
    ---Drop Rate: 20.98%
    Drop 2:
    ---Number of Drops: 133
    ---Drop Rate: 10.00%

    Without Thief's Knife
    Drop 1:
    ---Number of Drops: 335
    ---Drop Rate: 19.86%
    Drop 2:
    ---Number of Drops: 152
    ---Drop Rate: 9.01%

Along with this, I recorded the exact day and moon phase during every drop, but since the number of divisions of day and moon phase is so high, I don't have enough kills yet to determine a correlation between day / drop rate, and moon / drop rate. Although I can pretty certainly say that Watersday ABSOLUTELY SUCKS for drops. Unless I just had a ton of really bad streaks.

Feel free to make your own conclusions about this, but comparing with other items in the game, I am pretty confident that

    Treasure Hunter +x = Drop Rate +x%

    is a universal law.

Here are the possible factors that could cause my conclusion to be inaccurate:
    1) Weather effects that would sporadically show up in the zone.
    2) Kills being too sparsely distributed across the various days and moon phases.
    3) Gear being worn, and/or elemental resistances on those gear.
    4) Food being eaten (sometimes ate Meat kabob, which increases STR).

Out of curiosity.. Does the water element correspond to the strength/weakness of the mob you killed?

so right now looking at about 1% = TH+1?

Curiously, no. Water is unrelated to this particular mobs element. That being said, I'm trying to chalk it up to bad luck, and as stated dividing the original sample size by 8 (assuming it were evenly spread out among the 8 days of the week, which it's not) you can see that I haven't really done that many kills on each day of the week. So it really could have just been bad luck. I doubt I'll ever get 10,000 kills both with the knife and without the knife, however. So for now the day / moon mystery remains unsolved.

Yes. Obviously can't tell how this works on items whose drop rate is already like 50%. Would it still only be 1%? Or maybe 5%? Who knows, but then again I dont' really think it matters. Only thing people care about TH for is rare drops. That being said, with Thief's Knife being estimated at about a 2% drop rate from Sozu Rogberry, having a TH4 thief while fighting Sozu is a godsend, since it would essentially double your drop rate.

Nice work. Just out of curiosity, what reason do you have to withold the name of the mob?

There was someone I met once while camping Stroper Chyme a long, long time ago who said that she believed that Treasure Hunter actaully helped your odds of having multiple items drop, rather than a single item.. She tried to explain it as in it helped your drop rate on beehive chips, for example, since bees drop so many things, but not on Rolanberry crawlers (which only drop silk).

Have you considered running tests on mobs which only drop one item to see if the same results you have above hold true? Or perhaps on monsters that can drop many items, and maybe just quantifying the average number of drops per mob?

Kind of disappointing to see only a 1% increase on the Thief's Knife though. :/

TH helps the number of drops as well- when I used to farm elementals on THF, on average I would get 3-4 cluster drops, instead of 1-2.

Like most people who play THF, I have a tiny bit of hope for TH. But deep down inside, we all know its BS and accept it.

It's not -great- farming, but it is decent (plus I enjoy it). The mobs are in limited supply, and when there's more than 2 people there, forget about it. I'd hate to show up tonight after maintenance and see 700 thieves wanting to test their Treasure Hunter against a mob that has only a few spawn points. Besides, if anyone -really- wants to go out and test my results to see if the theory is true, it would be more beneficial to test on a completley different mob. But posting the mob name would almost certainly cause people to go after the same mob.

Repost from my own LS forums

Actually it does a lot more than people think. (we are still bidden by the random # generator though)

Biggest thing is to look at the % increase from the base %. TH adds a static 1% to the drop rate as shown in the above calcuations.

    Drop 1
    19.86 > 20.98
    1 / 19.86 = 5% increase in chance of getting item.

    Drop 2
    9.01 > 10.00
    1 / 9.01 = 11.1% in getting the item you want.

    If we take TH4

    2 / 19.86 = 10% increased chance.
    2/ 9.01 = 22.2% increased chance.

The static 1% means more than you think it does.

    A simple analogy is this.
You have 5 USD. I give you 1 USD. I've increased the money you have by 20%.
Same static 1 dollar but its a big increase in %

That's a good point, and definitely something that somebody ought to test out using an item with a different drop rate.

Not disputing your claim or your (shockingly lengthy) test set. Just posting a test that concludes differently:
