FFRK - Breaking The Chains of Sorrow (X) Event & Strategies

"I fight for Spira. The people long for the Calm. I can give it to them. It's all I can give. Defeating Sin, ending pain... this I can do." - Yuna

"Nope, we got a new goal now! Our new goal...is victory! To win every match, defeat every opposing team! To bring the Crystal Cup back to our island! That's all we need to do to win! Easy, ya?" - Wakka

Remiem Temple is the only remaining sign of a prewar city in the Calm Lands.

No living people in Spira continue to visit the temple, and the only inhabitants are the unsent summoner Belgemine and the fayth of the aeon Magus Sisters. The temple is a large and ornate structure, which was once bustling, but became forgotten after Sin tore the earth asunder with the last of its strength while combating high summoner Gandof.

Yuna and her guardians visit the temple in an effort to obtain even greater ability to help aid the fight against Sin.

    Balance Changes

Brave USB's start at lvl2 now.

    Relics

A solid EoM banner with our first healer bUSB for Yuna. Additionally, Wakka gets some much needed upgrades and Auron continues to improve to battle Greg over who the better fire Samurai is.

Banner 2 is retreads, but some good ones including Tidus arcane, Rikku's slot saver USB, a solid (with built in +dark) USB for Seymour, and a mix of Paine/Auron items.

To help, a lot of the BSB offerings provide some good Torment support as the secondary effects they provide (Stoneskin, Wakka's breaks) are solid offerings.

Oh, and theres a water chain 2.0 here too.

    Future Event Banner Comparison:

The next X event is a ways away, likely just after the 4th anniversary in early April.

If you want/need X healing, now is the time because Yuna becomes a wind/holy summoner. Aside from that stickler, you can pick from either banner as both have decent options for specific units. Do note that Lulu's ice USB (and water coverage...) is on both banners, but lost in a sea of dark and fire.

The event itself has a Jecht focus on B1 (including his shift to fire) and Auron/Paine on B2.

    Ultra EX/Chase Type Glossary:
    Spoiler: show
    Rules of thumb:
    1. Stat buffs from the EX mode have a unique ID and will stack with everything.
    2. Many USB’s come with a built in class damage boost. These are separate from the iteration class boosts and do stack.
    3. EX modes last 15 seconds, while buffs provided by the USB entry last 25 seconds. (Terra is an exception, with her EX Mode lasting 25 seconds).

    Special Effects:
    • General Boost: These can be anything specifically tied to the EX Mode - HP Stock, Crit Fix, Cast Speed, Element Boost, Stat buffs, and even Break Damage Limit. This will stack with every other buff on the user, including other EX Modes.
    • Rank Boost: This provides a damage boost scaling with the rank of the ability used. The boost starts out at ~5% for R1 increasing to ~30% for R5+.
    • Class Boost: This provides a flat damage boost for a specific class of abilities (Knight, Black Magic, etc). Generally weaker than the Rank Boost at ~15-20%, but applies to all abilities under that class - including Burst commands.
    • Chase: Follow up attack(s) triggered by using abilities of a specific element or school while under the EX Mode. The number of these chase attacks can be random, reliant on the rank of the ability used (Rank Chase), status of the user (Status Chase), or increase in number as the trigger ability is used (Echo Chase).
    • Cycle: Unit receives a quickcast or instacast charge when using abilities tied to a specific element or school – generally meant to be used in repetition for maximum effect.
    • Build Up: A gradient damage boost toward a specific ability school based on the number of ability uses from the start of the battle to when the EX mode is applied. This buff is not tied to EX mode duration, and will persist whenever the EX mode is active.
    • Wind Up/Finisher: Generally applying to Summoners, this will provide additional damage based on the sum total of all type (class or element) damage done during EX mode when the mode expires. The unique aspect of this is that a recast of the USB will count toward the exit damage of the previous EX mode.
    • Phantom Cast: This effect will auto cast an attack every few second at a set rate independent of the character. The number of attacks or potency is not reliant on any outside factors (Haste, Slow, QC) and will generally produce 4 actions per EX Mode.
    • Cheer: This will grant a party wide effect after using a triggering ability. For example, Marche will triple the cast speed of every front row party member (himself included) for 1 turn after he uses a Knight ability.
    • Ability Double: This will guarantee that an ability will cast 2 times per use at the cost of 2 hones. The first cast can trigger appropriate W-Cast materia for a total of 3 hits, but the additional hits will not generate SB gauge.

    Banner 1:

Tidus gains a bog standard overflow Brave, dealing 10x water hits on entry with en-water and fastcast for 15 seconds. The Brave level is driven by Sharpshooter class abilities.

Yuna gains a Brave USB too, offering an instant (finally) medica with a party M. Blink and a Brave mode focused on a stronger medica and HP Stock. Her brave is driven by White Magic ability use.

She also gains a decent Glint, though a little lackluster outside specific fights. 2k HP Stock and a Holy Stoneskin 50%. The effect is instant.

Wakka's new USB continues the Crush effect for support characters, but gives him some offensive ability as well. 15x water/non ranged damage with Atk/Mag Crush and en-water. However, this does force him into carrying non Breakdowns for damage - so be cautious.

His BSB2 is a near straight upgrade to his BSB1. 8x hits of water/non ranged damage with the lovely Mag/Def Breakdown effect. Both actions are of the Support school, but dead 2 hits each compared to his original 1. C1 is 2x water/non with Magic Breakdown and C2 carries Armor Breakdown.

Finally, Auron gains a new Arcane and Glint. His Arcane is a standard 3x fire damage, while his Glint is an instant stacking en-fire and Quickcast 2.

    Returning Items:

    Tidus Glint
    Tidus BSB2
    Rikku CSB

    Banner 2:

A few good items here, but all retreads. If you're missing FFX gear overall, this isn't a bad place to spend the blue stuff, but chasing one character is ill advised because everyone only has 1 or 2 items.

Lulu and Rikku would be the standouts; Lulu for magicite in the future and Rikku for in-realm utility.

    Returning Highlights:

    Lulu USB
    Rikku USB
    Auron USB
    Seymour USB

    Legend Materias:
    • B1 - Tidus: Begin battle with en-water.
    • B1 - Yuna: Small chance to w-cast White Magic abilities.
    • B1 - Auron: Begin battle with en-fire .
    • B1 - Rikku: Begin battle with Quickcast 3.

    • B2 - Seymour: Small chance to w-cast dark element abilities.
    • B2 - Lulu: Mag buildup - ice element hits. 1% -> 20%.
    • B2 - Paine: Atk buildup - Spellblade hits. 2% -> 34%
    • B2 - Jecht: Begin battle with en-fire.

Oh? Can you elaborate? Does Crushdown not play well with Breakdowns?

I assume it just means that to take advantage of the enwater he'll need to be using shooter for damage.

Yeah, the Crush effect is nice but lasts only for a short time - well short of the 15 second or so SB cycle. You generally bring a unit like Wakka specifically for support.

You'll have to forgo either Full Breakdown or a secondary damage BD to take advantage of the damage potential, or feed him meter to double up on BSB commands.
