FFRK - Fleeting Memories (VIII) Event & Strategies

"Thanks for the support, but I never miss my target." - Irvine
Oh, NEATO! A hole in the middle of nowhere." - Selphie

There really is a lot to be said for Selphie's dialogue in FFVIII. Shes like Cinque from Type-0, but like 3 layers more sadistic.

When Squall Leonhart's Balamb Garden SeeD team is hired by Galbadia Garden to assassinate Sorceress Edea—who by then had become a Galbadian ambassador under President Vinzer Deling—during a public celebration, Irvine is assigned as the group's sniper. As the group departs for Deling City, Irvine wastes no time on hitting on the girls on the team, Quistis, Rinoa, and Selphie.

Meeting and receiving their orders from General Caraway of the Galbadian Army, Irvine is teamed with Squall as the point assassination team while the other SeeDs are assigned to trap the sorceress. As the ceremony begins, Edea kills the president and claims Galbadia as her own. Rushing to their positions, saving Rinoa from Iguions along the way, Irvine and Squall wait as Edea is trapped under the gateway. Talking a good look at his target through the sniper rifle's telescopic lens and realizing Edea's true identity, Irvine chokes. After encouragement from Squall, who does not remember who Edea used to be, Irvine fires at the sorceress, his bullet being repelled by Edea's magical barrier.

Squall attacks her head on, and Rinoa and Irvine join him shortly after with Irvine claiming he has to redeem himself. Squall is knocked unconscious and the team is captured and imprisoned. Irvine either escapes or is, due to the Galbadian affiliation of his Garden, allowed to go free. Either way he receives orders from General Caraway to pick up his daughter, Rinoa, from the prison, and she is released due to the General's efforts. When Irvine tries to return Rinoa she forces him to assist in the rest of the team's escape.

    Relics

A lot...yeah...a lot of ice in this event. Theres some wind and dark mixed in for fun as well.

Banner 1 has a lot of +element, but its generally relegated to the class that uses them. Fire fists, fire guns, wind and ice thrown weapons, etc. Great for monks, sharpshooters/machinists, and ninjas, but not much else. Banner 2 is almost all re-treads.

Though if you're pulling here for Ice, Laguna's upgraded CSB is in the next Ultimecia event a few months from now - in whats considered a slightly better ice banner. Banner 1 here also essentially becomes banner 2 for that Ultimecia event.

We should also be pretty close to seeing Anniversary banners, but it may not be while this event is active. Overall, unless you're burning for ice damage or want some Fujin/Selphie relics you are better served waiting.

NO SUPER SOUL BREAKS! We all LMR now.

    Banner 1:

Rinoa starts us off here with her throwing weapon...Cutlass. Yeah. It does have +ice on it...which is nice for her and Edea. Entry is 10 hits of ice/non magic damage with en-ice and EX 'Chosen Sorceress'. Her EX mode provides a Mag boost and chases Black Magic with a 2-6 hit (based on rank) ST ice/non attack. Her BSB2 returns as well.

Irvine joins the USB game with a +fire boomstick, entering with 10x random fire/non ranged hits, reverse wall of 50%, doubles Shooter cast speed, and chases every 3rd Sharpshooter attack with a single fire/non ranged hit that carries a hefty Def/Res -70% debuff.

His BSB2 also carries +fire, but doesn't really go along with his role as a support. Random fire/non ranged hits on entry with imperil fire while C1 is 4x fire/non hits with short cast time and C2 is a 2x fire/non hit with self ether.

Everyone's 2nd favorite FF8 girl combines a few bits of her previous SB's into a nice little Fujin USB package - the weapon is +wind to boot (but man...all these +element items on thrown weapons relegate them to FF8 gals or Ninjas only). 10 hits of wind/non on entry with doubled cast speed, en-wind, and Fujin's chase of 'TSUI' - for every other wind element attack, TSUI will chase with either 5 or 10 hits (40/60% chance) of ST wind/non damage. Her mainstay BSB is here as well.

Interesting note about Fujin's USB though, is that if you have her geared up with LMR and dive, she can get about 3 USB chases in using her BSB commands without any instant-cast setting. This can be done with Meltdown as well if you have some fast cast available.

Zell's USB isn't new, but his BSB2 is almost a downgrade from his original offering. 8 hits of fire/non entry with en-fire is pretty boring. His commands are of the same standard class boosting formula, with C1 offering 4x fire/non with C2 being 3 hits but a 15% Monk boost for 3 turns.

Edea's Maria style BSB rounds out Banner 1.

    Banner 2:

Squall's ill-fated USB headlines here, joined by his OSB and BSB2.

Laguna's BSB2 fares better than Zell's, taking advantage of his Machinist school. Entry is a plain jane 8 hit ice/non with en-ice, but C1 deals 4x ice/non ranged damage (+1 if weakness is hit) while C2 is a single hit of ice/non but offers 2x non-charge for machinist abilities.

Selphie gains a much needed BSB2, ditching her old convoluted sage hybrid options. Curaga entry with a 100% Res boost, while her C1 and C2 are the tried and true instant Curaja and party medica. Her instant last stand USB is here as well.

Bringing up the rear are BSB's for Seifer, Kiros, and Ward.

    Legend Materias:
    • Banner 1 - Irvine: Small chance to inflict minor imperil fire when using Sharpshooter abilities.
    • Banner 1 - Rinoa: Mag buildup. Black Magic uses 1% -> 20%.
    • Banner 1 - Fujin: Begin battle with en-wind.
    • Banner 1 - Zell: Begin battle with a 50% crit fix.
    • Banner 1 - Edea: Moderate chance to double cast speed when using ice element abilities.

    • Banner 2 - Selphie: Small chance to add Last Stand when using White Magic healing abilities.
    • Banner 2 - Squall: Begin the battle with en-ice.
    • Banner 2 - Laguna: Small chance to minor imperil-ice when using Machinist abilities.
    • Banner 2 - Seifer: Atk buildup. Hits taken 3% -> 35%.

    Bonus Battles
    Sorceress Sniper
    Seifer
    HP: 58,929
    Target Score:
    • Defeat Seifer without being KO'ed.

    Weak: Poison
    Absorb: None
    Resist: None
    Null: None
    Status Vulnerabilities: Slow

    Edea
    HP: 81,926
    Target Score:
    • Defeat Edea without being KO'ed.

    Weak: None
    Absorb: None
    Resist: None
    Null: None
    Status Vulnerabilities: None

Notes: Seifer has an AoE Fira option to worry about if you're low level.

Edea is the opposite, but everything is Runic-able. Edea can AoE dispel, and Pro/Shell herself.

    Otherwise, nothing too dangerous.

    A Robust Mobile Weapon +++
BGH251F2 (w/ Elite Soldier and Galbadian Soldier x2)
    HP: BGH215F2: 161,370 - Elite Solider: 25,374 - Galbadian Soldier: 19,518
    Target Score:
    • Defeat the bosses without being KO'ed

Weak: BGH251F2: Lightning - Soldiers: Poison
    Absorb: None
    Resist: None
    Null: None
    Status Vulnerabilities: BGH215F2: Blind, Berserk

Notes: Physical only fight, so you can berserk and blind cheese the first half. The soldiers don't have a whole lot of heft to them either.

    Ultimate + Apocalypse Battles
    The Military Way of Life
    凶Biggs & Wedge
    HP: Biggs: 180,000 - Wedge: 130,000
    Target Score:
    • Reduce an enemy's attack.

    Weak: None
    Absorbs: None
    Resists: None
    Null: None
    Vulnerabilities: Slow, Stun

Notes: Wedge will spawn when Biggs is around 80% HP and restore the lost HP.

Biggs will remain your primary target for a few reasons. 1. He can haste his side and slowga yours. 2. He gains a slowga counter if Wedge is killed first.

Upon defeating one, the remaining solider gains a def ignoring AoE hit.

Wedge can use mixed attacks, so don't neglect either mitigation.

Cid Mission: Since you need to include Squall, Selphie, and Zell in your FF8 party for this, Irvine and more damage become the natural next 2 choices.

    Fear Approaching
    凶X-ATM092
    HP: 370,000
    Target Score:
    • Defeat X-ATM092 before it uses Recovery.

    Weak: Lightning
    Absorbs: None
    Resist: All except poison.
    Null: Poison
    Vulnerabilities: None

    Moveset:
    Attack (PHY: ST 110% physical)
    Attack (PHY: ST 344% physical)
Crushing Arm (NAT: ST 422% physical)
    Crush (NAT: AOE 300% physical)
Ray Bomb (BLK: AOE 342% magical fire)

(Weak only) Recovery (NAT: Self recover all HP)

Notes: A decently potent enough AoE fire magic attack and some strong physical hits means fire resist and mixed mitigation is the order of the day.

You'll need to deal 60k damage within 3 turns when Weak (81%) and Very Weak (41%) phases begin, otherwise X-ATM will use Recovery and you will not be able to master the fight.

Cid Mission: Only needing 3 FFVIII characters here means you have open choice of 2 powerhouse characters for this fight.

The Watchdog of Hell (Apoc +)
    滅Cerberus
    HP: 480,000
    Target Score:
    • Reduce Cerberus' magic.

    Weak: None
    Absorbs: Lightning
    Resist: None
    Null: Wind
    Vulnerabilities: None

    Moveset:

(Not-Triple only) Berserk (WHT: ST 18% chance to Berserk)
(Not-Triple only) Dispel (WHT: AOE Dispel)
(Not-Triple only) Blind (BLK: AOE 30% chance to Blind)
(Not-Triple only) Silence (WHT: AOE 30% chance to Silence)

Thundaga (BLK: ST 450% magical thunder)
Quake (BLK: AOE 390% magical earth)
Tornado (BLK: AOE 450% magical wind)
Aero (NAT: ST 570% magical wind)

Notes: Magic only fight. Leave physical mitigation at home.

Affliction break, or Blind/Silence resist on relevant characters can make your lives a whole lot easier here. Cerby loves him some status effects.

Unlike previous fight, Triple cannot be dispelled. Sadly, Triple is random in this fight as lasts for 20-30 seconds depending on phase. If he enters Triple status early, this is some Kick-o-clock levels of aggravation, but if he doesn't enter it at all then it becomes "Issaru fight #40" levels of easy.

Jump Start Notes: No changes from the A+ version.
