FFRK - Ray of Hope, Path of Darkness (XII) Event & Strategies

As we ease back into post 3rd Anniversary,

"And so I sue for peace to stop short war and ease their suffering. My father will choose peace." - Larsa
"The once-great House Solidor is now reduced to myself, and my dear brother Larsa." - Vayne

Despite his age, Larsa is mature, gentrified, and speaks formally. Many place their hopes in him to become a great emperor. He is cognizant of world events and wishes to help avoid war. Larsa is polite and respectful to others regardless of their class and ethnicity and often puts his faith in others to do what is right. He is wholly devoted to his family, his country, and preserving peace.

By contrast, Larsa's elder brother Vayne is determined to restore House Solidar by way of unflinching power using the gifts of the occuria - nethicite.

Driven by the desire to become a new Dynast King, Vayne allows no distractions or obstacles to his goals, removing them by whatever means needed. He is not a brute however, and is intelligent and pragmatic in his pursuits, recognizing the value of political pawns he can hold over others by keeping enemies alive or manipulating their actions. Vayne values the legacy and stability of Archadia and House Solidor and will use any means to safeguard them.

    Relics

Well, here we are. Post 3rd Anniversary.

Hope everyone wang-ed. Hope everyone got chung-ed at least once.

But this is serious time as we hit potentially the last above average banner for a good while outside of chasing one character (Cinque particularly). Truly, there isn't a "amagad" banner for a long while. Think of it more like the next 3 months are a "best of" hits from 3rd Anniversary.

But that means if you have mythril left over, or don't care about the newly announced lucky pulls (honestly, even at half price YMMV at this point) you can toss a little toward Larsa and Ashe for some good options.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/FFRecordKee...6f&sh=a16c4de9

In comparing the next XII event, much returns next event but with different layouts.

tl;dr: If you want some 5* magicite future proofing or like Vayne, pull now. If you're after Larsa or Ashe stuff...see whats around the next XII event in 2 months (like Cinque) and gauge if you will be conflicted.

    Ultra EX/Chase Type Glossary:
    Spoiler: show
    Work in Progress

    Banner 1:

Vayne opens with his hybrid magic/physical USB. He retains his dark/non typing on a 10x ST entry, Atk or Mag + Def boost, en-dark, and chases dark element abilities with "Sephira" - 5x ST NAT type ranged or magic hits.

His burst and LMR return and both offer dark+.

Larsa, finally bringing his legend dive, offers potentially the 2nd best panic button healing USB next to Yuna's: Instant medica, party esuna, Astra, and High Regen. No Last Stand or HP Stock, but he can keep it afloat with Wrath. Its a holy+ armor too.

His equally potent (for a) BSB returns as well.

Reks gains a USB boostga pairing Ramza's loudside with a lightning element radiant shield effect. Kind of lackluster for a USB, but eh, Reks is just doing what he can. His BSB shows up here as well.

Nothing new for Ashe here, but her USB/BSB combo are present along with +lightning gear. Keep in mind her BSB holds up now, despite not being a Maria type either.

Fran's pentabreak BSB rounds out the banner.

    Banner 2:

    Gabranth's stuff is +dark here while Basch's is +holy.

Gabranth gaines an...OSB? Odd for the current meta, but Gabranth joins the big damage team with a scaling multiplier (Lightning's) dark/non OSB based on dark element abilities used. His USB and BSB pop up here as well in an attempt to make Basch respect him by having more on B2.

The rest of the banner is reruns.

    Ab Flex: OSB, USB, BSB
Basch von Ronsenburg of Dalmasca, of which he is: BSB
    Penelo: BSB
    Leading Man: BSB

    Legend Materias:
    • Banner 1 - Larsa: Small chance to cast Astra on the target when using ST White Magic healing abilities.
    • Banner 1 - Reks: Small chance to heal an ally by 40% of their HP when using Spellblade abilities.
    • Banner 1 - Vayne: Begin battle with en-dark.
    • Banner 1 - Ashe: Begin battle with en-lightning.
    • Banner 1 - Fran: Moderate chance to stun enemies when using Support abilities with a bow equipped.

    • Banner 2 - Vaan: Small chance for Thief abilities to apply Ether 1.
    • Banner 2 - Gabranth: Begin battle with en-dark.
    • Banner 2 - Basch: Begin battle with en-holy.
    • Banner 2 - Penelo: Small chance to doublecast White Magic abilities.
    • Banner 2 - Balthier: Small chance to doublecast Machinist abilities.

    Bonus Battles
    Sorrowful Blade
    Gabranth
    HP: ???
    Target Score:
    • Defeat Gabranth without being KO'ed.

    Weak: None
    Absorb: None
    Resist: None
    Null: None
    Status Vulnerabilities: Silence, Stun

Notes: Gabranth will start the fight under haste, and will be immune to magic for two turns at the start of his "Weak" phase.

Everything here is physcial as well, so forget about shell.

    Reach Madness' Way ++
    Dr. Cid, Famfrit
    HP: Cid: ??? - Famfrit: ???
    Target Score:
    • Defeat Dr. Cid without being KO'ed.

Weak: Cid: Holy - Famfrit: Fire
Absorb: Cid: Dark - Famfrit: Water
    Resist: Cid: All except Holy/Dark
    Null: Famfrit: All except Fire/Water
    Status Vulnerabilities: Stun

Notes: Cid begins with a buff suite of haste/pro/shell - so certainly dispel is in order.

When Famfrit spawns, Cid will become immune to everything and take on more of a support role with a decent ranged physical threat. On top of that, much of his regular arsenal is physical, ranged, piercing, or all of the above - so back row won't save you much.

Famfrit doesn't have much, but can silence you with decent success. Defeating Famfrit will remove Cid's invulnerability.

    A Warrior's Death +++
    Gabranth
    HP: ???
    Target Score:
    • Defeat Gabranth without being KO'ed.

    Weak: None
    Absorb: None
    Resist: None
    Null: None
    Status Vulnerabilities: Silence, Stun

Notes: Nothing new move wise from the previous fight...still all physical.

Instead of magic immunity upon entering weak phase, Gabranth will pull an Emperor Palamecia and heal up - restoring HP and removing status.

    Ultimate + Apocalypse Battles
    Onslaught of Authority
    凶Hashmal
    HP: 280,000
    Target Score:
    • Reduce Hashmal's magic.

    Weak: None
    Absorb: None
    Resist: None
    Null: None
    Status Vulnerabilities: None

Notes: You have both physical and magic attacks to worry about here. His magical stuff is earth element, and Quakera does have a moderate chance to slow you. So be aware.

Like the first Gabranth fight, Hashmal will become immune to magic for 2 turns upon entering Weak phase.

    Dragon Cloaked In Wind +
    凶Tiamat
    HP: 380,000
    Target Score:
    • Defeat Tiamat before it uses 凶Tempest 3 times.

    Weak: Earth (50% Weak)
    Absorbs: Wind
    Resists: Everyting Else
    Null: None
    Vulnerabilities: None

    Moveset:

Scratch (PHY: ST extremely heavy physical)
Don't Act (NAT: AOE low chance to Stop)
Breath (NAT: AOE heavy physical fire, medium chance to Sap)
Air Screw (PHY: AOE moderate ranged physical wind)
Whirlwind (PHY: RT ranged physical wind, 2 hits)
凶 Tempest (NAT: AOE piercing ranged physical wind)
    Scratch (PHY: AOE moderate physical)
Counter Reflect (response to black or white magic if Reflect is not active; WHT: Self Reflect)

(Default/Weak only) Aerora (BLU: ST magical wind)

(Weak/V Weak only) Cyclone (NAT: AOE piercing ranged physical wind)

(V Weak only) Chain Aeroga (BLU: RT magical wind, 2 hits)
(V Weak only) Great Storm (PHY: RT heavy ranged physical wind, 3 hits)

Notes: A little different on the medal condition front. Tiamat could use Tempest 10 times, or only once. It isn't a scripted AI for number of turns, but a 1/7 chance to use it every turn. It will not use it until its 10th global turn, however.

You do have a mix of physical and magic attacks, piercing physical hits of varying elements, and ranged threats to worry about. On top of that, he counter Black and White magic with reflect and can AoE stop and sap your party.

There is only 1 element attack that isn't wind, but it is an aoE piercing physical fire hit so choose your poison with elemental accessories.

Cid Mission: Physical teams will have an "easier" time, only because they won't have to deal with reflect. The downside is that XII isn't exactly swimming in in-realm earth element users and it's hard to bring Ashe and earth spells with the reflect issue.

You may also want to double healer it, as Tiamat can put out the status just often enough to ruin runs. Luckily, Penelo can function as a debuff dancer while Larsa main heals.

Vaan's BSB won't help much on incoming damage, but will assist with outgoing hits since it's a little difficult to exploit earth damage here.

Basch could help direct some of the ST physical hits, but draw fire won't take all of them.

Monster Lurking in the Deepwood (Apoc +)
    滅Behemoth King
    HP: 460,000
    Target Score:
    • Win the battle with at least 3 characters alive.

    Weak: None
    Absorbs: None
    Resist: Omni
    Null: None
    Vulnerabilities: Stun

    Moveset (No Barriers):

Holy (NAT: ST 650% magical holy)
Darkga (BLK: AOE 342% magical dark)
    Scratch (NAT: ST 422% physical)

(Weak/V Weak only) 凶 White Breath (NAT: AOE 240% piercing0.5 ranged physical ice, 78% chance to Stop)
(Weak/V Weak only) Ardor (BLK: AOE 342% magical fire)
(Weak/V Weak only) Slowga (WHT: AOE 38% chance to Slow)
(Weak/V Weak only) Counter Attack (15% response to physical attacks; PHY: ST 266% physical)

    Moveset (Physical Immune):

    Scratch (NAT: ST 422% physical)
    Attack (PHY: ST 422% physical)
Scratch (NAT: AOE 206% piercing0.53 physical)
Atttack (PHY: RT 344% physical, 3 hits)
Counter Attack (100% response to physical attacks; PHY: ST 266% physical)

    Moveset (Magic Immune):

Holy (NAT: ST 650% magical holy)
Firaga (NAT: ST 570% magical fire)
Blizzaga (NAT: ST 570% magical ice)
Thundaga (NAT: ST 570% magical thunder)
Ardor (BLK: AOE 342% magical fire)
Slowga (WHT: AOE 38% chance to Slow)
Darkga (BLK: AOE 342% magical dark)
Counter Holy (100% response to black magic; NAT: ST 330% magical holy)

Notes: Mix of everything here really, sporting physical and magic hits of multiple elements. Not to mention KB starts the fight with a suite of pro/shell/haste/regen/reflect active so definately pack a dispel.

AI here will have KB shift to a phsycial or magical immune state every 5th turn it remains in a phase. This state will last 4 turns.

The slowga/stop threat is strong enough to warrant accessories, especially since KB can use 5 different elements as it is. Additionally, KB will use White Breath on the 1st turn of Weak and Very Weak phase - brining piercing physical ranged ice damage and that hefty stop chance. Since that is scripted, you can set up a physical blink if available. Otherwise, Affliction Break would be a better option to handle both stop and slow.

Jump Start Notes: No changes from the A+ version.

Can we consider Yuna's USB a "panic button"? (I know, I'm nitpicking here )

True, it's more like an "oh shit!" USB.
