    Towing Laws? Civil Law

So my car got towed tonight and i'm a little frustrated, and oddly enough as were the cops...They told me that the towing company has never towed cars from this place and that there signs are pretty shitty and i should try to see if they did anything wrong to take them to court on. After a good amount of time googling i couldn't find much info on what justifies a proper tow, anyone here with input?
Essentially it was one plaza next to another with a sign on the building to the far left, another sign on a parking spot on the far left, and nothing on the right side at all. We parked on the right side, so is it justifiable to say theres no warning on that side that would provide fair warning, making the towing unjustified?

What are rules for sign placement and what needs to be said on signs? If they are covered or out of view does that effect anything?

Well there was a hookah bar in the plaza next to it, and all of the spots were full so we just parked in the other one, being 12 at fucking night it shouldn't matter, the cops were pissed because since the plaza was closed down, most of the time signs like that should act as a deterence, but it was all hidden so it was more like a "Scheme"

Did you get your car back yet?

If you want to sue them I think you have to prove that they didn't use due care/were unreasonable.

If you don't wanna sue, you can annoying them forever when you go pick up the car by claiming stuff was stolen, scratches all over, the car isn't running properly. Don't let them tell you it's not their responsability. Throw out words like breach of contract, negligence, scams, etc.

It works, it always works to annoy them.

I sometimes wonder why places have such strict parking enforcement. Over here on MSU campus, there is seriously no good place to park for free. You get a ticket if you leave your car for 15 minutes to go do something real quick. If you leave it there for more than half the day, you get towed. A buddy of mine got his car towed when his car was parked in my apartments' completely empty parking lot. We had a tornado warning going, so I told him to just park there and come to my place. After the tornado warning, his car was at the towing place.

Same kinda thing happened up here. Got a guy who built a club/casino in the parking lot of the local mall. Mall officials got pissed at him due to design reasons and decided not to let club patrons park in mall spaces. Pretty much the club has 20 parking spaces or you park half a mile away. First night like 20 cars got towed turned into a big legal case and the court ruled in favor of the mall. Pretty much they said its private property and the mall could do as they please. They even stated they didnt have to have it posted from what I recall. Posting just lesens the chance of hassel. I compare it to a neighbor throwing a party and one of there guests park in my driveway. I dont need to post that their car will be towed and can call my friend the repo man and have it towed. And yes I have done this before :D Not trying to sound mean just I have had my rig towed numerous times due to leaving it parked and catching a ride home and they dont even care if you were trying to prevent drunk driving. So yeah it probably aint worth it but you can always try and tell us the outcome.

Whats worse is, in some neighborhoods you can't even park in front of your house with the association crawling up your ass.

Well, on private property someone would have to call and register a complaint. It was soo late I know the owner didn't call a complaint, so the towing company just did it on there own.

God I hate those places. I could care less about people parking infront of my house. Just WTF parking in MY driveway. Thats an automatic piss me off and see your car go bye bye. Also befriend your local repo guy. They come in handy in numerous ways

And most of those larger lots have contracts with local tow companys. The trucks just drive around looking for their next victem. Yeah it sucks.

How much did it cost you? If it was less than a couple hundred, it's not worth the time and effort to fight it, especially risking losing more money to court costs.

Uh also just a heads up. You should really check your car to make sure everything is actually still inside. I work for AAA hiring towing garages for our territory(Western Pa, WV, Eastern Oh, and Jamestown NY.) The garages that do towing for police are very rarely AAA approved garages.

Which basically means they are the fly by night ambulance chasers. The type that will impound your car and then charge you an arm and a leg for storage fees. Get it out as soon as you possibly can. Here in Pittsburgh the running rate for storage fees are generally anywhere from $30-$100 per night.

Yeah, that's the smart thing to do,

but it's a question of vendetta! frivolous issue, yes, but getting towed is fucking annoying and demands blood.

It's like when your co-worker writes you a letter to do something thats not your job, and puts a smiley face at the end of the letter. THAT too demands blood.
