BG 2023 Oscars. Best movies of 2023.

Checked my Letterboxed and I think I've watched about 50 movies released in 2023. Here's my top 5 films released in 2023. Caveat...there's 2 movies I haven't watched that could be added (The Boy and the Heron,The Holdovers).

    5. Nimona
    4. Theater Camp
    3. TMNT: Mutant Mayhem
    2. Infinity Pool
    1. Bottoms

Honorable Mention that deserves in top 5 (but it's a short): The Wonderful World of Henry Sugar.

The next 5 favorites (no particular order).
    Anatomy of a Fall
    Barbie
    They Cloned Tyrone
    Across the Spider-Verse
    When Evil Lurks

the holdovers was very good. also enjoyed across the spiderverse a ton. barbie was good too, may be a little higher than normal for me because of my circumstances watching it but it was still a good time either way

I keep meaning to watch the Holdovers, it looks good.

    For me it's gotta be:

    5) Barbie
    4) Oppenheimer
    3) Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
    2) Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
    1) Godzilla Minus One

List is probably stunted due to just not getting out to the movies much this past year, but that said it's hard for me to imagine liking anything more than I did Godzilla.

The Night of the 12th has been sitting on my server for months. Maybe I'll watch it after the kids go to bed.

Past Lives was brilliant, just not my vibes. I guess I should have said that these are the movies I enjoyed the most. Maybe not the "best". Bottoms isn't a masterpiece, but it's so damn fun and quirky.

I watched Night of the 12th.
    Spoiler: show
I know the solving of the case was kind of secondary to the treatment of of the victim during the investigation and the investigators themselves, but I wish there had been some payoff to keeping up with all the suspects and so much time spent. I know not everything deserves a pretty bow to tie it all up, but man, we got nothing other than a biker going up a mountain. The third act felt so flat after looking promising

Saltburn was VERY good. Not cracking my top 5, but I loved it. My wife is now determined to name our house. Saltburn is such a good name. So was Skyfall (from 007). Naming a house/estate is tough.
