1 dead and 5 injured in a pipeline explosion in Moreland, Kentucky. Good old Enbridge.
The coroner has identified the woman who died as Lisa Renee Derringer, 58. She lived in one of the several homes that were destroyed, police said.
Troopers described the scene as otherworldly, saying the area is completely void of grass and vegetation as a result of the blast.
The explosion also left a gaping hole where it originated.
Emergency managers estimated the flames shot as high as 300 feet in the air.
A local church, New Hope Baptist Church, is providing them shelter. Troopers are asking anyone who lives in the area of the explosion to check in there, so they can account for all people.
Several trains in the area are affected because tracks were damaged. It's unclear when those will be moving again.
For some reason, I thought this thread had a lot more posts.

City is being evacuated again because the air quality hasn't improved in the week since the explosion.
On Thursday morning officials in town and Jefferson County reaffirmed a voluntary evacuation order due to high levels of a harmful chemical in the area.
The order, initially issued Wednesday, followed an earlier shelter-in-place advisory that warned of unhealthy amounts of 1,3-Butadiene — a chemical associated with synthetic rubber and plastics processing that, when inhaled, can cause headaches, fatigue and even central nervous system damage and fainting, according to the National Library of Medicine.

A cancer-causing ooze, hexavalent chromium, is leaking onto I 696 in Detroit. The source is a business that was shut down in 2016 for illegally storing hazardous chemicals.
Police said the chemical ran from the basement of the building onto the ground and then found its way through a drain which then empties onto the I 696 highway.
The Environmental Protection Agency said once the chemical came up through the drain, it froze. The agency said workers would scoop frozen liquid from the highway and place it in a safe container.
The leaked hexavalent chromium in Michigan came from a commercial building which housed Electro-Plating Services, officials said. The business was shut down when inspectors discovered hundreds of containers filled with hazardous waste.
Hexavelent chromium was referenced in the film Erin Brockovich, which told the story of an activist who sued a California energy company after the chemical leaked into a town's water supply.
The inconsistent spelling of hexavalent in that article is enraging.

Two dead and one injured after a machine shop in Houston, TX explodes. Nearly 200 homes around the area were damaged.
The blast was reported about 4:20 a.m. at Watson Valve Services near the corner of Gessner and Clay Roads.
Houston fire Chief Sam Peña said at least one person has also been hospitalized in the blast that resulted in propylene burning for several hours after the explosion. The identities of the dead and injured were not immediately released.
Peña said firefighters have searched about 190 homes west of the blast site so far. He said some homes have sustained significant damage, noting several of them have been moved off their foundations. Peña said debris from the explosion is being found at least a quarter-mile from the blast site.
“(The explosion) knocked us all out of our bed, it was so strong,” said resident Mark Brady. “It busted out every window in our house. It busted everybody’s garage door in around here … and closer toward the explosion over here, it busted people’s roofs in and walls in, and we don’t know what it is … It’s a warzone over here.”

A fire has been burning at a scrapyard in Becker, MN for over 36 hours. Below zero temps have made fighting the fire difficult.
A giant pile of junk cars started burning around 2 a.m. Tuesday at Northern Metal Recycling in Becker, about an hour northwest of Minneapolis.
Firefighters from 18 departments have been battling freezing temperatures in an effort to put it out.The scrapyard is located in an industrial area near the Mississippi River.Authorities said after consultation with the State Fire Marshal's Office, Emergency Management Department, MPCA and MDH, they believe the best course of action is to separate a portion of the burning vehicle stack and let it burn itself out.
Authorities said they came to that decision because firefighters' water resources were rapidly depleting, and it means that the resulting fire will be more intense.
Edit: Local NBC newscast just reported that the smoke will reach Minneapolis (south of Becker) by tomorrow morning and then winds will shift overnight Friday sending the smoke northeast towards Duluth and Wisconsin.
