Disney paid $75 million for the film rights to Hamilton. The release will be a recorded & remastered version of the Broadway play from two weeks before much of the original cast departed. It will receive a global theatrical release before moving to D+.

Then again, it's literally just the stage version. Compared to Cats with its mad CGI fursuits or Les Misérables with it's awkward Russell Crowe pub rock karaoke singing it's a very safe way to take more of my money.

If you want an apt comparison what kind of production and presentation coming out of this, the Newsies Broadway show is probably going to be the benchmark. 2 actual shows have been recorded and the additional shots will be from stage PoVs, close ups, and other camera work that would not work with an attending audience.

Lin Manuel Miranda says they had to edit out two usages of the word “fuck” to get the MPAA PG-13 rating to appear on Disney+ but otherwise it will be untouched.

In the live action play, they pronounce the -ck more clearly. In the album, they let the fu- trail off. Not a big deal. Other than that song, can't recall if there's another fuck
