Mouse pad issues on laptop

My laptop's mouse pad no longer lets me left click[button, or pad tapping], or use it's scroll-pad since last thursday[been using a USB mouse ~_~] but it still responds to right clicking and movement, and it had been acting weird but still working for two weeks before this. Also I've tried system restore before the it started happening and it didn't help, so I am pretty sure it's the driver for my mousepad, but I am not really sure how I go about unistalling it, and where/how to get it re-installed.
Any advice on how to do that, or what else could be the problem would be helpful, Thanks.

who makes your laptop? go to their support website and find your model's page and in there somewhere should be mousepad drivers (usually labeled synaptics or something similar) get the newest ones, even if you have the newest ones and uninstall the ones you have and install those

Sorry should have provided it's an HP laptop.
Edit: Pavilion dv8000, and searching their site now for it.

driver re-installed still not working, maybe it's something hardware since I tried switching left and right click, and tap clicking works again with it reversed but obivously can't do 'right' click that way, and scrollpad still not working for me.
Is it possible for just one side of the mouse to break on a mouse pad?

one clicker side of the physical clicker? sure... the whole half of the pad? less likely but id assume its possible

Well the one clicker that doesn't seem to be working it still can be 'clicked', but doesn't do anything.

I have a synaptics touch pad on my laptop too and the scroll bar doesn't work in anything non microsoft... wierd.
