Huh.. I actually had one of my emails compromised due to this. Crazy thing being that it was setup with two step authentication as well. Luckily it was only used for junk so nothing of value at risk but still.
I presume that's due to you having used the same password on both? I can't see anyone with a unique password and 2FA on Twitter having any problems here even if they didn't change their password.
That said, 2FA all the important things.
They were actually separate, previous password for my twitter account was cW(4%iPJN! and email password was Z*eDnh%@71 which were all created using a randomize algorithm I've created and then stored in a keepass. I wouldn't consider them easily crackable passwords either.
