Accidental Formatting

I've accidentally formatted my external hard drive with a ton of music on it, and I mean a whole lot, does anyone know of a way to help me get all of the songs back? I've read that hard drives doesn't actually delete them but we can't see it. I really need to get these files back.

Any programs you guys suggest? Is there something I can do about it?

I have no idea but how in the world did you accidently format a hard drive with so much music ;.; I'm sure something here could be of some kind of use I'm too tired to look through the stuff >.>

I backed up all my music from my 80 gb iPod onto the hard drive, about 60 gigs worth, but when went I restore it(through iTunes), it wouldn't work, so I tried to restore it via Windows. And after I finished formatting, I realized that I had accidently formatted both the hard drive and the iPod. So now the iPod and the hard drive is empty.
