Just came in late to say fuck EA for turning DS3 into a shitshow for what would “earn more money” and then destroy the company that made the game while claiming survival horror is dead and then rebooting it only after other companies have proven for the dozenth time that survival horror is not dead so they can do what I’m sure will just be a shit job of copy/pasting Resident Evil Remakes.
Shoulda just done a remaster trilogy.
I'm not sure why this game needed a remake and in the Frostbite engine at that. Just completely pointless.
Because the first one was the best one and people will buy it.
Yup, I'll absolutely get down with a shinier version of the first game.
The better question isn't why companies release games that are only about 10 years old, because we know why: because money.
The better question is whether its worth it to pull the staff off of other ideas to remake something not really that old. Its not remaking FF7 or something, which is a comprehensive overhaul of nearly everything, not just some higher rez models and an "enhanced score". I wasn't even a fan of the FFX remaster because I felt that not enough time had passed, even though that was literally 20 years.
I'm sure the bean counters at these companies know how many they need to sell to turn a profit and have it all worked out, but I'm always more of a fan of a full-on remaster of a 30-year-old game rather than a 10-year-old one.
It is an excellent game, but I don't consider it "showing its age."
Perfect Dark on the N64 is showing its age. Needs a damned remaster as well. I miss Jonathan Dark and Mr. Blonde...
it's been 13 years and may be on the road to 14 by the time this remaster drops dog. The Last of Us is apparently getting remade twice since 2013. wrong hill.
DS3 was a grimy game because of all the EA microtransactions around it. Perfectly functional, but just felt ugh at times.
honestly this ain't a hill i'm willing to die on this was all a decade ago and i haven't replayed them so memory a bit fuzzy. from what i recall i preferred 1 because it was more horrory whereas 2 started heading towards action (which 3 fully embraced to the franchise's doom), and preferred the story of 1 with the Nicole video / reveal and all that business. 2 had the better gameplay for sure tho.
Though the best dread-inspiring moment when playing 2 was when you found out you had to go back on the Ishimura and you’re just walking through those same halls, waiting for the same shit to happen even though you KNOW they wouldn’t repeat encounters from the first game.
If there was one thing that would have infinitely improved 2, it would have been keeping the silent protagonist.
And just because it’s been a few posts; I’m not against this remake because it’s not that old, I’m against this remake because EA destroyed the game with their own choices they forced on Visceral and then mercilessly closed it down, only now remaking it because of popular trends that might make them money. This game isn’t going to be a remake of DS1, it’s going to be a reskin of RE2 Remake.
I get the feeling the regenerator is going to have a way larger presence in this game.
I'm going back in my mind and remember being scared shitless a few times. Was a great experience. I'm still skeptical on how much better its going to look, but hey, I can always not buy it.
Make it good, EA.
I enjoyed both but definitely preferred the first one. The gameplay was just tight enough that I could play it today and not rage, the story while short was juuust enough for a survival horror game, and reveal at the end, every chapters first letter spelling out the twist ending was a nice little touch too.
This game is gonna be tight af with Ray Tracing
I think in the case of FFX the remaster it at least offered something 'new' for some of the playerbase - US got the Expert Sphere Grid and extra bosses from the International version, which they didn't have before and both US/EU got the Last Mission game and content for X-2.
