What keeps you playing?

So all you hardcore players, what keeps you playing this game? I myself got RDM and RNG to 75 then called it. It was fun for a while but the gilsellers/economy/redundantskyruns/takingforevertodoanything/beingbroke got to me and I quit about a year ago.

I am curious as to why some of the hardcore players are still playing and what keeps you guys motivated? I keep hearing bad things about FFXI lately and wanted to know what positive things have been keeping you playing all these years and why you haven't quit for another MMO.

It is a mixture between friends and the overall experience. I look at ffxi as a t.v. show that I am apart. Everyday a new episode starts, because some of the things that happen ingame the best writers couldnt come up with.

There is also something missing that wow doesn't have shit on and there is a feeling, an essence or something that FFXI has, something thats undescribable that makes it feel more real, more epic when something happens that I can't put my finger on that no other game can match. Anyone who has played wow knows what I'm talking about.

Things I do in the game are fun, as hard as that is for some people to believe haha. I get nearly no benefit out of dynamis currently (although I'm thinking of upgrading a relic), and I still go and enjoy it because it's fun.

Same for other events. Things are fun to do with friends.

3 reasons

1) I always liked the concept of FFXI, it just had shitty implementation, though SE has honestly come a long way with some of their newer content, but they still do stupid shit after 5 years.

2) I like the graphics of FFXI, it's the perfect mix between being cartoony and realistic.

3) There aren't any other interesting games right now.

It's a headache at times, but on our better runs it's a blast. I'm always either pulling or main caller / sub caller though.

Working on leveling different jobs is one thing. I'm finishing up my 4th job to 75 now.

Also, attempting new challenges. At this point, I have fought almost every HNM in the game, yet there are still things that can be a fun challenge. A little while ago, my ls claimed Cerberus with only 5 people, and we fought it with just us and killed it. Fighting and killing Cerb with only 5 people was very exciting, and provided memories I won't soon forget.

Another thing is getting new gear for my character. Many people may deny it, but there's definitely an excitement factor when you finally complete a set of AF2, abjuration, limbus, salvage, or nyzul isle gear. The satisfaction from seeing your hard work pay off is great.

Finally, I just enjoy hitting things with a sword. I get arrested if I do it in real life, so this is my outlet, lol.

It's just a really good thought out game , although lots of it is broken it's still fun 4 years on I'm on a forced break atm and i'm missing the game like crazy. I even miss Remora a lot i'm thinking of going home after my tour of servers there is no place like it.

First of all, as crazy as it may seem to some people, I actually enjoy the game a lot. There's a lot of things for me to do, as well as a lot more things that I just haven't had time for yet that I want to do, and I know how to keep things interesting. Second (and probably more important) reason would be friends.
