Unable to patch FFXI, please help!

Hey guys, Been working at playing Final Fantasy 11 again since 2006. Just got a copy on steam and got my account reactivated but I keep disconnecting during the update process, been struggling with this for about 3 days now. I'm making a reference from All-Final-Fantasy-XI-PC-Updates-amp-PS2-Disc-Backups/page13 thread
My ISP is Road runner, My Router is a DIR-615 D-Link, and my Modem is an Ubee.

I've turned off my firewalls, and unistalled all my virus protection in a fuss to get this update and still nothing. If anyone has any suggestions or anything please let me know!

I used to have similar issues with connecting to SE's servers* back in 08 or something which is when I learned how to torrent.

Since all you really need from steam is the code...

I apologize for this but what are you trying to say exactly? Are you suggesting I torrent all of the patches and manually install them?

A) Delete everything FFXI-related from steam. Uninstall it, clean it out of your steamapps
That version is baaaaad. Lots of people have issues with it.

B) Go elsewhere and get the appropriate POL for wherever you live. NA POL or EU POL or whatever.
I'm at work and I can't really search google or whatever so I'm limited in what I can recall but anyone savvy enough to mess with torrents should be able to find a working POL/FFXI+Xpack torrent.

I bet you'll even find people talking about it on the steam forums.

Come to think of it, I think I couldn't get my steam version to work either and I ended up borrowing a friend's set of installation disks and it worked like a charm.

So just Tried a bunch more other things. But apparently when I plug it directly into my modem it's perfectly fine, when i play the game any other way that's not connected to the modem the game dies.

Open up the correct ports in your firewall.

since Xopher didn't say what ports; check Here for that info; it's old but this game is old.
