Program that checks email account, etc. meh

Hi, I have multiple emails (AIM, 2-3 hotmail, gov, work, yahoo, etc.) and was wondering if there was a program out there (other than trillian) that can check your email account status/or to notify you when you receive an email.

I currently run 2-3 Windows Messenger's just to do this, and its kinda a waste of resources.

    Thanks!

edit: outlook express = fail, so no.

WebMail Notifier plugin for Firefox will handle some of those for you.

Another option is the Crawler Toolbar, which I used for a while and really liked - I just set options to only include the email, shut off all the other plugin things it has - I ended up uninstalling it though because when it would cycle through to check things, it would like, take me off my active window and lag a bit, which was annoying in game.

I just looked "WebMail Notifier 1.1.5" and this seems like the best canidate. Just that I don't use FF3/FF2 that much anymore due to incompatibility issues.

WebMail Notifier checks your webmail accounts and notifies the number of unread emails.
You can use multiple accounts in a same host.

    Currently supports
    - mail.google.com(Gmail & Google Apps)
    - mail.yahoo.com (yahoo.com, ymail.com, rocketmail.com)
    - mail.live.com(hotmail.com, msn.com, live.com)

Below sites are supported by user script.
    - mail.qq.com
    - www.fastmail.fm
    - mail.lycos.com
    - www.orkut.com
    - freemail.web.de
    - poczta.fm(poczta.interia.pl)

If you want other webmail provider, you can make your own script.
You can find user script examples here.

I wonder if they have made a program also for Windows XP/Vista yet? Because that would almost be perfect.

If you're looking for an IM program, I'd recommend Digsby. If you're looking for an email program, use Windows Live Mail or Thunderbird. I rather like Digsby, it's a great multi-protocol IM client, and you can configure it to check external email accounts just fine. It's better than Trillian, in my opinion, but it's also newer, so there's not the library of skins and such that Trillian has.

I also found this interesting program, but I have a question.

    Play different notification sound
    Delete from the server
    Run any EXE file
    Mark as Spam
    etc ...
Configurable Hot-keys/Mouse-Buttons/Command-Line options for most functions
    Plug-in Support:
    Protocol plug-ins (e.g. IMAP4, Hotmail, Gmail, etc.)
    Notify plug-ins (e.g. Flashing scroll-lock light, ScreenSaver)
Spam management using rules and white/black lists
Mulitple notfications (play sound, pop-up, etc)

Gmail supports POP3 and IMAP plus SSL. Hotmail charges for POP3 and doesn't support IMAP at all as far as I can tell, but Windows Live Mail can check and read Hotmail via a proprietary protocol. AOL mail supports both IMAP and POP3. Yahoo charges for non-web access, same as Hotmail.

Edit: PopTray has plugins to support Hotmail and IMAP, so it should work for all of your accounts.

Digsby seriously made my day. This is what Trillian wished to be lol. I used to have like 50 icons for every messenger, etc. in my systembar. Now theres only two. Steam and Digsby.

Outlook is trash, crashes, can't be modified as much as other software out there. Plus it doesen't allow messenging clients which is a huge bonus to using a "one for all" program.

Just btw, there's a new digsby out. This one supposedly lowered the memory footprint by a lot!

Seriously, best free program I've ever used in my life.

Why can't FFXI have such a good support/dev team, these guys barely even get paid too lol.

Seriously, I love digsby to death. It just needs to integrate with LJ and it will be complete!

That and to have a decent IRC plugin! Otherwise it's pretty nice.
