anyone have any experience with these and have any recommendations for one that actually works?

gonna assume you know these are illegal and have hefty fines attached and likely points lost, but just double checking, careful with that stuff
haven't used one personally though, sry
they're not illegal in all states
Yeah, owning technology should definitely be illegal.
Anyway, I'd have to look up the name but mine is installed around the car at different points...not one you buy off the shelf. I'd do a google for them and see what pops up on tuner forums. For my other cars I just have a cobra.
never said they should be illegal, just thought they were
it was my understanding that most of these were installed on the dashboard somewhere and cops reportedly pulled over people with anything resembling it on their dash
good idea to have it installed throughout the car; for the states that it is illegal it sounds a lot more difficult to detect and get nailed for (if that's what the local laws dictate, not stepping on your toes honey, own what you want)
I've been through stop checks in two different provinces with my Radar detector plugged in and in one case going off while at the stop check and cops didn't even look at it twice.
In any case I have one in both my vehicles and it's saved me quite a few times. Never had a ticket so far and while I don't speed excessively there are times when I don't quite obey the speed limits . Mostly on the highway where for some stupid reason the limit is 90 km/h (about 55 Mph) and everywhere else out west it's 110.
i fucked a chick from kelowna that i met on /b/ and saw a good concert
When i drove out there everyone was all like omg im gonna drive slow but then i got behind these guys who were doing 110mph the whole way so I was like cool 3 people in canada have balls
I have had a Valentine One for 10 years now. Bought it for $400, same price it's always been. Sent in it for the first time last year when it started going off for no reason. They upgraded it to the newest parts/firmware for about $100. I know it sounds costly. But it beats every other detector I've seen. I don't drive my car or ride my bike without it.
Escort knows their shit. Try them out, may be a little high end.. but in the end it's totally worth it. I'm saving up for the highest model.
Radar detectors are out of date here. Need a laser detector.
Oh, a caar audio place I used to frequent installed a laser jammer that guaranteed signal jamming or they paid for the ticket. One guy took me through the little road side speed radar and it didn't show his vehicle spped. Was neat. It was also installed in dash and just shined a little light when you were being tagged. Noone would ever know it was there. I don't recall who made it or if it is still new technology however.
The valentine one is a hell of a radar detector and I think if I had 400 bucks to blow on a radar detector it would be the one. I've wanted on of these for a very long time, but I don't really speed and am cheap so I just can't rationalize it. But I definately have radar envy.

brilliant
Valentine 1 is the best in the business. It never becomes outdated (they update parts and firmware constantly). It detects laser and radar, and it detects it 360 Degrees around your vehicle. I've had mine for a while and wouldn't think about ever using a different detector.
$400 is pricey, but if it gets you out of 2 tickets then it basically pays for itself.
They aren't illegal, however, they ONLY work for detecting RADAR, not LADAR. LADAR on sets off the detector if you've been tagged, because of the way the laser works in the LADAR unit.
does 10 prestige in COD4 do anything besides the shiny icon?
It still detects LIDAR and instant on radar. No detector will get you out of every situation if you are speeding. You have to combined smart driving with it. If you are out in front of multiple cars, don't speed at a rate you think you will get pulled over for if you are caught (9 over the limit is common where I am at.) Detectors will detect laser and instant on aimed at cars in front of you when the police target them, giving you time to slow down before they target you.
Drive smart, not stupid!
I'm going to say the valentine-1 would be a good one to go with. Unfortunately I don't have one yet because of the price, but supposedly they tell you which direction the detection is coming from and can alert you about the upcoming police.
I hardwired my V1 into my car's electrical system. Its worth the money. The only difference between the V1 and the high end escorts are the positional arrows on the V1. (Detection ranges are similar with a slight edge towards the V1 at the cost of an additional 100-200).
Once you get used to the arrows, the V1 is a great buy. Also good if you keep the V1 for a while, you can upgrade to the newest hardware version for the labor and parts charge.
