Need a good video converter program

I just got a new MP3/Video player, and it is very very fussy about movie format. Some MPEG4s work and others it says its the incorrect format. After looking around online, I found it requires very specific requirements(mp4 output container, H.264/AVC output video codc, AAC Audio codec) and the only converter that I could find that let you get that specific worked just fine for me on smaller files . So, I try it with a full movie sized file and my PC gets very laggy. Even though I installed this program on my D drive (I have a partitioned drive) it says I need 20 gigs available specifically in my C drive, and it would not complete the conversion.

Are there any other programs that I can use to convert to MP4 so I can put movies on my player?

    SUPER © .

    This has NEVER failed me.

The only challenge is finding the download link.

This app does EVERYTHING. Everyone I recommended it to has not complained. Perfect for PSP/iPods too.

I'm sure it'll work on yours, you can select a huge amount. It's also free. No shit. I hope you will find it useful.

Thats the one I have. It requires 20 gigs on the C drive (which has less than 2) to use and it won't allow me to support it of my D drive.

How about Handbrake? The most recent version is pretty noob friendly.

Thanks anyways, but I couldn't get that one working either.

I found virtualdub okay, I'm pretty clueless with video encoding though, but it had a fuckload of options and was pretty easy to use

Videora iPod Converter - Free iPod Video Converter

Intended for ipods, will most probably work just fine for your player.

Has worked for all but 1 of my test files (which was an FLV, so I didn't expect it to). Going to try a movie sized file now. Thanks for the link

Bleh, 2 fails now on large movies. One took 2hrs to get to 99% and sat at 99% for another 2hrs before i gave up on it, the other just got a regular error and stopped about 20% in
