So this could be good. Right? It's been so long since a film like this has been made I don't know what jokes they can do that won't just offend everyone. I think Liam can be deadpan funny though.
I am cautiously optimistic Neeson can pull it off.
He does have a very particular set of skills.
I skimmed OP's post and thought "Is this a deep fake? Post-mortem CGI like Grand Moff Tarkin? That seems in bad taste." Then I re-read it and it made more sense, but those names are almost too similar to be a coincidence. Did they just cast Liam Neeson because his name sounds a whole lot like Leslie Nielsen?
Liam Neeson can legitimately be hilarious when playing it straight, but it would also be funny if the movie centers on everyone thinking he's Frank Drebben because his name is like Frake Dresden.

I could see it as a simple wink/nudge with "Name's Frank Drebben......no relation".
Liam could do the part. Problem is how you do that kind of humor in the modern era and who do you get to try to write a plot and cast Liam against. I don't think trying to follow directly in the shoes of Naked Gun 33 1/3rd would work where you try to ramp up the sight-gags-per-minute as high as possible. Need more wit than that.
