    Cannot connect router to modem

I have a Motorola Docsis 3.0 Surfboard SB6120 Modem... with a Linksys 1200 router.... When I am hardwired into the modem... fine connection... but as soon as I hook up the router to try and hardwire into the router.... I have no internet access. I heard something about an IP or something... any ideas?

I think all it takes is getting into your router's configuration and choosing to clone the PC's MAC address. If you meant a Linksys e1200, this is what I found regarding how to do it: http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/GetArt...onverted=0#sf7

    7. What is MAC address clone and what is it for?

Some Internet Service Providers (ISP), especially Cable companies, require you to register the MAC Address of the modem, router or Ethernet adapter of the computer in order to access the Internet. If you do not wish to re-register the MAC address currently registered with your ISP, you may assign the MAC address you have currently registered with your ISP to the router using the MAC Address Clone feature.

If you want to clone the MAC address of the computer that you are using to configure the router, and then click the Clone My MAC Address button. The router will automatically detect your computer’s MAC address, so you do NOT have to call your ISP to change the registered MAC address to the router’s MAC address. It is recommended that the computer registered with the ISP is used to enable this feature on the router.
Given the explanation, you'd probably have to call to register the MAC address if that doesn't work.

Unplug the modem from power for around 5 minutes, then plug it back in and do the same with your router but just a brief unplug to hard reset it.

If that doesn't work, call your ISP.

Do this but actually reset the router via the hard button not just unplugging it. Also, your ISP isn't going to help you if you connect fine through the modem but not the router.

If dude doesn't even know how to log into his gateway, troubleshooting this is going to be a pain. This router could be dead for all we know.

run cmd prompt under administrator and
    "ipconfig /flushdns"
restart after if it doesn't automatically fix your problem.
i have internet but no access every couple months, flushing usually works

lol do you even know what dns does?

OK OP Here's what you do.

Plug in your modem to your router's WAN port(may say internet). Plug any of the other ports in your router to your computer.

Wait a few minutes, open up a command prompt on your computer and type "ipconfig /all" without the quotes. Should show what your default gateway is along with other information like your local IP.

That default gateway address is the address for your router. Plug that address into the address bar of your browser(may require https:// before it), and you should be able to navigate into your router's web interface.

Let us know if you can at least do that.

sounds like your router is shitty. if you manually set your dns servers to something like google dns that won't happen anymore.

Seriously the OP's issue isn't uncommon with cable ISPs, if it's the same thing you either clone the PC's MAC to the router or register the router's MAC with the ISP.
