Ys: Oath in Felghana and Ys: Origin / Ys general

While most Ys games follow Adol and Dogi, Ys Origin takes place before their adventures. As a prequel to the entire series, Ys Origin takes place 700 years before the events in Ys I and focuses on the Black Pearl. The twin Goddesses are main characters along with a new cast of heroes that climb up Darm Tower. Ys Origin for Steam will be the first official English version of the game.

“People have been asking for Falcom’s great catalog of PC games to be officially made available in English for a long time,” said Jun Iwasaki, President of Xseed Games. “To start our new publishing arrangement on Steam with two standout entries from Falcom’s action-based Ys series, one of which has never been made available in English before, is an ideal situation for us, and we are excited about the future possibilities.”

NEVER BEFORE AVAILABLE IN ENGLISH... apart from the English patch that was completed not too long ago. Good news either way though, Ys series needs more love in the west.

At least they were nice enough to say "never officially". I do wonder if good sales are going to mean more Falcom PC titles like Sora no Kiseki, Ys Seven, and the rest of the series that made it to PC.

Also shit bricks, didn't see this specific shot..

Bought! Also, from what I read on the XSEED forums, it seems like they'll most likely be doing steam releases for future stuff after Origin to continue to test the waters, and then sell physical copies if desired. Meaning, like Trails in the Sky SC (Sora no Kiseki) will probably be on PC first, and then if there is a big demand for it, they'll release it for PSP.

Though I honestly prefer PC release on both the Ys series and Trails series. Smoother frame rate, and sharper graphics. It's also nice because most my friends don't have a PSP, but they hear me talk about how awesome falcom games are. The only releases were on PSP in english until now.

already have 'em but I might buy both again just to support the cause. $15 each, they're a steal. haven't played Origins yet, how does it compare to Oath?

Origin has two different characters one playing more like Adol with close range combat (Yunica) and the other firing out lazers (Hugo) like a SHMUP game almost but it definitely isn't easier in all cases. Adds a completely different dimension to the game making it more fun and interesting. It's also a prequel that takes place a couple of hundred years before the first games and it features the twin goddesses as well. My only gripe is you have to trudge your way through this tower (think Persona 3's Tartarus) the entire time, but without being able to go outside or explore any kind of fields or towns. It definitely has an Etrian Odyssey kind of feel with the different types of themed areas though, which is nice.

3.5 hours into OiF and about to head into Valestein Castle, lol can't believe I am beating some bosses I had to take over 30-50 tries with on Nightmare first try. Wish you could select any difficulty from the get go.

As for seeing other Falcom titles like TiTS, Ys I+II remake, Ys Seven (Chinese version hitting in June) PC versions... would easily take 20, it's already surreal seeing OiF on Steam as it is. Very glad to hear that sales are going very good, Origin should come out soon and I would imagine they would follow up with Ys VI since it's already translated and such a short (but sweet) game.

Wasn't there a "Y's" Game for the Nintendo DS? Where does that fall in the whole loop... I played it, Was kinda fun, in a "Free Internet Game" sort of way.

Was the DS game just... Basic, Or is that what i should expect from all of them >_>?

It was a remake of the first 2 Ys games. It was essentially a DS port of the Ys Eternal that Nightwolve did a PC translation patch for years ago. It's one of the better remakes.

Wasn't the DS game an SRPG game? If so it's absolutely nothing like any of the core Ys games lol.

There were 2 Ys games on the DS. Ys Chronicles (Ys I and II) and Ys Strategy. The later was never released in the US. Didn't look all that amazing to me anyway.

Can't wait for Origin to hit. I'm about 5ish boss fights away from beating Ys Seven on the PSP I think.

Hopefully we get more Ys Games on Steam. Rep told me the versions on steam are the translated PC versions. So far the only ones that seemed to be released on PC were Origin, Oath in Felghana, and Ark of Napishtim.

Actually a remake of Ys I+II was on PC as well. Ys Seven is getting released (wait for it.. in China) exclusively for PC June 20th, so all that's missing is Ys IV (getting a PS vita remake) and V.

I think if the Origin sales are as good or even better than Oath's we may see the entire series. If we got a PC version of Seven.. oh god. VII has to be my favorite, maybe because it was my first Ys game but once you play with the party system.. it's so goddamn perfect.

Oh you are right. Not sure how I missed that. Kinda sucks about Seven being on PC in China. Maybe one day it'll hit the US market via steam. I wouldn't mind playing it on my PC instead of a PSP. No clue why, but my hands kind of cramp up after awhile on a PSP.

Already looking into getting a Vita when IV/V hit the shelves. Still can't believe I never tried these games earlier.

i used to play Ys on turbographx, but have never played any recent Ys game, was wondering how different they are.

also, when you pronounce Ys in your head, is it pronounced yeez or whys? or something else like why es?
