Lawyers for Ohtani made that claim after The Times learned that Ohtani’s name had surfaced in the investigation of Mathew Bowyer, an Orange County resident. Seems like Ippei gave an interview to ESPN where he directly stated Ohtani doing just that before lawyers swooped in and tried to make it sound like he stole the money, when he's already on record stating otherwise.
