Not quite out of the box.

Well since it is a well known combo, but doesnt seem to be too widely used ive been working on tanking as NIN/DRK... So far ive held up amazing on god pop nm's Despot, Zip, Oalla, etc... But last night I had my first chance at byakko and got destroyed in a matter of 3 seconds. Im just wondering for all you nin/drk's out there, what nms does it particularly excel at and what kind of gear setups do you use.

Ive been toying around a lot different combos of haste, emnity, dd, hp, and dmg- gear and havent quite found the perfect combo so far. Do I want pure haste for stun recast? Do I want pure emnity to hold better hate? Do I want more hp for survivability? Last night I went in full hp gear for spirits within, nailed byakko, gearswapped to pure emnity and was dead by the time last resort went off. Im really trying to give this nin/drk thing a good chance and ive tanked byakko many times without a death as nin/war. Well anyway here's what Ive got so far.

Head: Walahra Turban, O Hat, Arhats Jinpachi
Neck: Evasion Torque, Harmonia's Torque, Spike Necklace
Earrings: Suppa, Eris x2, Elusive x2, Spike x2
Body: Arhats Gi, Nin Chainmail, Haubergeon
Hands: B. Kote, Yasha Tekko
Rings: Rajas, Snipers, Venerer, Flame, Thunder, BQ
Back: High Breath, Amemet+1
Waist: Koga Sarashi, Warwolf, Life
Legs: Koga Hakama, Byakko's Haidate
Feet: Koga Khayan, Yasha Sune-Ate

On things like Byakko when you are at risk of dying quickly and know you are going to get hit, warrior sub still provides for the lowest damage taken. Nin/drk excells at long fights, especially when attack cycles are static (Tiamat)... Nin/brd is the maximum hate if all party members are close..

My personal preferance on subs..

Tiamat / Jorm - Drk or Brd sub

Ouryu / Mnk NM's / Byakko - War sub

Cerberus - Brd or War

It's all about what you like and feel comfortable with and do well with..

You tank Ouryu as NIN? He hits pretty fast since no slow/elegy :/ and the slow can really screw your recasts > How much does he hit you for? I haven't tried anything but PLDs for our Ouryus. Im guessing Rukenshin probably gets hit for like 100 by him lol

He doesn't really hit too hard as long as you have solid defensive gear.

I tanked Ouryu as nin, he doesn't hit very hard, only like 150ish I think. With 2x March, Haste, and Haste gear it's not all that hard to keep shadows up if you know what you're doing. The slow can mess things up but if your mages are good you'll be erased/hasted soon enough. Though from now on I'll probably go Paladin. Definately do-able on nin though.
