    Viacom is watching D:

I just saw this come up on the news lol.

    http://[http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/t...gy/7488009.stm

Google must divulge the viewing habits of every user who has ever watched any video on YouTube, a US court has ruled.

The ruling comes as part of Google's legal battle with Viacom over allegations of copyright infringement.

Digital rights group the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) called the ruling a "set-back to privacy rights".

The viewing log, which will be handed to Viacom, contains the log-in ID of users, the computer IP address (online identifier) and video clip details.

While the legal battle between the two firms is being contested in the US, it is thought the ruling will apply to YouTube users and their viewing habits everywhere.

Viacom, which owns MTV and Paramount Pictures, has alleged that YouTube is guilty of massive copyright infringement.

Eh that sucks, but its not like youtube is "trying" to be piratey..ish Like I noticed when I tried to veiw clips on youtube aboiut will smiths new movie, ya get a " Movie was removed because it violates sony or something blah blah".

Seriously though if ya got like.... hundreds/thousands of videos being uploaded daily, you probably couldn't hire enough people to sit n hit refresh, evaluate new clips and remove them on "possibly copyright infringing" videos or illigeal etc"

My biggest complaint is that they track your IP and login on what videos you watch and store all that data. I watch a lot of conspiracy videos and things tied along to the new age movement, are they gonna throw me on a potential terrorist list now because i watch a lot of videos that doesn't support the current adminstration or way of life?

This whole thing could have been avoided, and youtube would have legal immunity, if they had just not implemented the feature to log IPs and viewing habits.

They'd ask for logs of IPs and viewing habits, and youtube would be like "I'm sorry, we don't track that information." The judge would be like "Well, sorry Viacom, you're asking for something that doesn't exist".

    Case closed.

I'm surprised Google's lawyers didn't advise them to not track user IPs and habits, to avoid situations like this.

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

If it wasn't for Youtube's ability to track viewing habits and IPs, Google probably wouldn't have had interest in the first place. A lot of what google does is tied back to their major product: advertising.
