A puzzle game where you write the name of an object, any object you can think of, and you use it to get to a star and solve a puzzle.

What. The. Shit. This is insane.

Ah, who am I kidding, you know the first thing people are going to try with that have more to do with Large Hardons, instead.

So can I solve every puzzle with a penis?

I think they should be able to allow "mature subject matter" as valid inputs, and still pass Nintendo's censor panel and get a "E for Everybody" rating, too.

    Why?

Your kid can't write anything he doesn't already know, yet. And if your kid wants to use his penis to solve his problems, then he's ready to learn how to use it!

Dude, if that was the case, modern 12 year olds would be allowed to see hardcore porn.

Looks like a really interesting concept. Even though it seems insane that they claim that they will include "anything", if you think about it... those little 21 Questions games are such simple and cheap machines yet there are so many different words with all lots of properties defined.

Anyways I'll be keeping my eyes on this, thanks.

Looks way too overambitious. I don't expect it to be as good as they say it will, but done right it definitely could be good. I lol'd at the cop chasing the donut, seems like they're either demoing the items with actual decent properties or they're putting a shitload of effort into every item.

But hey, it is nice to see some serious ambition instead of sequels and genre retreads, isn't it?

We were doing the interview on the phone. I asked him to load the spreadsheet he has that lists every object planned for the game.

I started looking around my office and naming stuff, trying to stump him:

Cake mix? (Because I have “Portal” cake mix from Valve)

Slaczka did a search and said that the game can render a cake mixer, cake mix and pancake mix — all different objects with different properties.

Hourglass? (Because I have a “Phantom Hourglass” from Nintendo)

    Yes.

    Pushpins?

    Of course.

    Briefcase?

Yes, the game will make the same object whether you write “briefcase,” “suitcase” or “case.” They would be classified as containers. Dragging something else to them would put that something else in the container.

    Lint?

Sure, that’s classified as kindling. Combine it with a match and it’ll burn.

I stopped naming things. Slackza swears that they’ve thought of everything. Exotic foods may not make it. Don’t expect “some eastern mountain Bolivian dish,” he said. But do expect… “dialysis machine” to work.

Well colour me impressed, but it's still far from release and God knows how much they'll end up cutting before release, if it ever gets that far. Definitely be keeping an eye on this now though.

    Fuck yeah Calvinball!

edit: here's the thing though... if I write, for instance, 'Kirin', do I get this, that, or some beer?

This is why I'm glad I own a DS sometimes, this game sounds badass. I love games that are fresh and unique.

But seriously, Dialysis Machine? What the hell are you going to solve with that; your character has no kidneys and needs to have dialysis every 10 steps or he'll die on level 97 or what?

    edit: Wow, awesome.
Well, one really awesome thing about the levels is that once you beat one, and you want to go back and play it again, you can't use the same objects again. This makes the player think through it again and figure out new ways to work through puzzles. Obviously the tree level is a basic first step, and you could think of a lot of things for it, but as you go on and the levels get harder you need to challenge yourself more to solve them. The replayability is really through the roof on it, since you can go time and time again and keep trying to do it with different objects.

Kirin is a proper noun, it probably won't be in the game.

What would be better is if you could only use an item once, ever. If you use it on level 1, you can't use it on levels 2 through 99.

But I think they should have allowed you more freedom in repeating a level. I mean, you already beat it, naturally if you're doing it again, you want the freedom to dick around and use whatever you want. Maybe you want to use all the same items again, except change one up to see the effect.

Once you beat a level 3 times using the different items rule you get it for "free play." I believe, is what I read, however that is all still subject to change considering there's still about a year left in it's development.

Necrobump! But this game has new info from E3 and its going to be a fucking beast of a game.

I had played all the big titles at E3. Private showings of God of War III, Heavy Rain, Alan Wake. But at 4:00 on Thursday, I was wandering around the show floor, wondering what else I had to see. I saw a small little booth for "Scribblenauts!" in the Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment section. I mean, who goes to that booth? But I remember hearing about it on GAF, and so I decided to check it out.

Best game of E3? Without a f*cking doubt. Anyone who says otherwise did not play Scribblenauts. Best game of all time? Jesus Christ, I don't know, maybe. It's a game that challenges your IMAGINATION. No other game has ever done that.

So listen to this story. I was in the early levels; I didn't quite have an idea of how ridiculously in-depth the database was. I was summoning things like ladders, glasses of water, rayguns, what have you. But I reached a level with zombie robots, and the zombie robots kept killing me. Rayguns didn't work, a torch didn't work, a pickaxe didn't work. In my frustration, I wrote in "Time Machine". And one popped up. What the fuck? A smile dawned on my face. I hopped in, and the option was given to me to either travel to the past or the future. I chose past. When I hopped out, there were fucking dinosaurs walking around. I clicked one, and realized I could RIDE THEM. So I hopped on a fucking DINOSAUR, traveled back to the present, and stomped the sh!t out of robot zombies. Did you just read that sentence? Did you really? I FUCKING TRAVELED THROUGH TIME AND JUMPED ON A DINOSAUR AND USED IT TO KILL MOTHERFUCKING ROBOT ZOMBIES. This game is unbelievable. Impossible. There's nothing you can't do.

    Holy fucking sh!t.

    What will work, what wont?

    Concrete Objects Only
    No Proper Nouns
    No Copyrighted Words
    No Adjectives
E-E10 rated words only - this means No Vulgar/Offensive/Lewd/Drug/Alcohol related words

    Awesomesauce, meme's you say?

They've been kind enough to include MANY internet memes (longcat, LOL wut, NeoGAF also ), mythical creatures (Cthulhu, vampires, griffins etc.), and famous people (Einstein), but don't expect everything in those areas.

    How many puzzles?

220, plus a sandbox mode, plus a create your own puzzle mode, plus a sharing said puzzle's function and one of the most technically impressive games... on the DS? Yep, apparently on the DS.
God I CANNOT WAIT, this is going to be awesome.

So close yet so far, one of my most anticipated titles. I showed this to a co-worker and he didn't believe it at first. Also, that article above is pretty hilarious.
