DAY ONE
Helming this is Octopath Traveler producer Masaaki Hayasaka. Looks like it'll be the best version of the game yet.
I was meh about it since I'm not the biggest DQ fan, even though I recognize that DQ3 is the most beloved (and has the best looking protag), but then I thought about it a bit more and now I'm 100% supporting this. I love the 2.5D style and if this blows the fuck up, we may get games like FFVI, Tactics Ogre or FFT in 2.5D.
Ima need ALL of you DQ boys and girls to buy about 4 copies each!
I'm down with this plan. Everything 2.5D GIMME
God, it's fucking gorgeous looking lol
What. The toybox style is already extremely popular. It's arrived - mainstream. Link's Awakening was a huge hit, the Pokemon D&P remakes are 6 months away, now DQ3. Those are like 3 of the 5 largest JP game properties that exist. Don't hold trends or consumers responsible for Square's ongoing, utterly inexplicable, shit treatment of FF3, 5, 6, 8, 9, and Ivalice IPs. They're sitting on a nostalgia platinum mine and, this far gone, it seems they'll never be not retarded enough to tap it.
You make it seem like they're the only one doing it. There's a ton of Japanese companies doing the same goddamn thing. Konami makes SE bend the knee and kiss the goddamn ring when it comes do sitting on vast stores of delicious IP that are coated in cobwebs.
SE is using those IP, just not in the ways I want. There's no shortage of those IP used in mobile addiction simulators, just not in standalone games or quality revamps. You can't go 3 feet without seeing Agrias or a Viera packed into some mobile game for that sweet sweet gatcha income.
>> everyone buy this game so the style becomes popular enough that SE will give this treatment to FF6
<< toybox is already mainstream, SE just doesn't give a fuck about certain IPs for inane reasons
>> oh yeah? well Konami is worse
ok
Konami. Does. Nothing. With its IP. That is objectively worse than doing half-assed things with IP. This isn't complicated or hard to understand.
Yeah, was joking with a friend the other day that Suikoden was basically built for gacha with having 108 characters in each game to draw from for a character pool, including game-specific originals. If Konami had interest in cashing in on that, they would've done it by now. It's likely safe to say Castlevania and Metal Gear are also dead, even if respective directors have moved on precisely because of Konami's bullishness.
SE may be shit at times, but DQ and FF are at least seeing movement. Probably safe to say we'll never see a Xenogears remake, though.
