Favorite games that you would recommend

Since we have a thread for disappointing games, I think it will only be fair to have one for games that you like and would recommend to your friend. What are 3-5 recent games you really like (on all consoles) and would love to recommend to anyone for this holiday season?

BioShock (need i say more? stylish, solid game play, amazing story. it's a full package of awesomeness)

Mass Effect (one of the best games in the sci-fi genre I have ever played)

Deadspace (one of the best games in the horror genre. It really gets scary at times, especially when I played with all the lights off and 5.1 surround sound blasting)

left 4 dead (welcoming online campaign packed with additive collaborative game play. If you like COD4, this is one game should be on your holiday list)

Secret of Mana.

Xenogears.

I am replaying all 3 at the SAME time believe it or not. Nostalgia overload!

Mizango kind of stole my thunder but the first game that came to mind was Lufia 2. Such a great RPG, and many of my friends had not played it until I kept pestering them. Two other old games that I still enjoy playing are Ogre Battle for SNES, and Tactics Ogre. For some reason I was always in the minority that had more fun with Tactics Ogre compared to Final Fantasy: Tactics. If you want a nostalgic experience to remember how frustrating (but fun) games used to be, there's nothing better for me than The Lost Vikings games.

Ok, so I didn't pick 5, and they're not recent titles so I totally didn't follow your rules! But those are the games that came to mind.

My favorite game of all time is Metal Gear Solid. But oddly enough I hardly ever recommend it. To many people bitch about the cut scenes and so on so I just never say anything about it.

Star Ocean 3 (if you can get over the LOLPLOTTWEEST) it's a great game.
Star Ocean 2 - Don't personally like it as much as 3 but it's damn good as well.

Chrono Cross - If you're a CT nostalgiafag... stay away, otherwise a great game.

Vandal Hearts - Game doesn't get nearly enough love
FFTactics - Pretty good, looks prettier than Vandal Hearts and a better storyline but way way easier.

Monster Rancher - Only played the first, but it was good shit.

How odd that Lufia 2 came to mind right away for me as well, I haven't touched the game in half a decade. The story is a bit cheesy and pretty typical, but the puzzles were top-notch, and the battle system was pretty fun too. The Ancient Cave is icing on the cake, I never did beat that damn thing. I think the lowest I got was floor 50 or something.

Also: Xenogears. Best story in the history of RPGs, especially on your second playthrough - there are so many moments of obscure dialogue and weird references that make so much sense once you know the whole plot, it's amazing how well it all comes together.

For example: My mom asked me if my brother would like Rock Band. If someone gave me Rock Band I would be extremely dissatisfied, but I know my brother wouldn't. I didn't say "Rockband sucks, get Godhand and Fallout 1+2 collection."

Console: "Dead Space," "Persona 4," "Tales of Vesperia," "Rock Band 2"

That's a fairly varied selection, I think. Short and somewhat sweet.
