    Building a PC

After trying to decide between buying a pre-built PC and building my own, I figured it'd be easier/cheaper to just build it. I've gone through most of the posts about building PC's and PC parts to try and get some ideas. Basically looking to do gaming (FFXI, WoW, CS etc.)

Case: Newegg.com - Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Computer Cases

PSU Newegg.com - CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply - Power Supplies

    MoBo Newegg.com - GIGABYTE GA-MA790XT-UD4P AM3 DDR3 AMD 790X ATX AMD Motherboard - AMD Motherboards

    CPU Newegg.com - AMD Phenom II X4 945 Deneb 3.0GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor - Processors - Desktops

    RAM Newegg.com - G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory

Cooler Newegg.com - ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro 92mm CPU Cooler - CPU Fans & Heatsinks

HDD Newegg.com - Western Digital Caviar Black WD5001AALS 500GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive - Internal Hard Drives

Graphics Card Newegg.com - XFX HD-485X-YDFC Radeon HD 4850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards

A lot of the parts were taken from other posts, rather than hijack a thread I decided to make my own. Any advice would be appreciated, just wanted to get a few others advice before I bought anything. Thanks

Looks good. There may be a few personal preferences people have, but your choices are fine. For an AMD build you're spot on for a great price/performance ratio.

nice to see people that read over a few threads before just asking "give me cheap good pc parts now" posts...

Looks really good.. PSU is a bit of overkill tho you could get away with a 500-550W.

I'd consider the modular 520w b/c I hate cable management, but don't think the 650 for $99 is a bad decision at all.

I think the HD4770 is about on par with the 4850 but consumes less power, might want to consider that model instead

They make two versions of the Freezer 7 actually - he'd need the version for AMD sockets.

And actually yea, now that I think about it, for the Phenom IIs you'll want a larger cooler like the Xigmatek one since the extra cooling power from the 120mm fan will allow for higher overclocks (get some thermal stuff for that kinda thing too).

Thanks for all the advice. As far as the HDD and Cooler go, I'll be making the switch to what Kyamei said. Small price to pay for the upgrade.

As far as the PSU I was having trouble with this initially. How much (if any) of a difference is there betweeen the 550W and 520W? I also went to their website and plugged in my specs to get a recommendation and it recommended both -.-. So that wasn't much help.

Get the 650W PSU in your OP, the mail in rebate makes it cheaper.

On the note about the Arctic Cooling cooler, a friend of mine has this one: Newegg.com - ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 64 Pro 92mm CPU Cooler - CPU Fans & Heatsinks

and he said it worked really well on his Phenom II X4 940 with cooling, but he doesn't overclock right now. I guess you do plan on overclocking?

Also, yeah.. the higher PSU for the same price seems like the right idea. I don't see the need to go to 650W unless you planned on juicing it up with another card or anything, but damn.. if you can get a 650W for the same price as a 520W, then go with the 650W.
