Surprised this hasn't had any more posts, maybe because no one got the game.

Well I did, and it's fucking awesome. If you were an edgy kid in the early 2000s that liked SA2 then this is THE game for you. Best boss fights in the whole series. Screamo OST lol

I wanted this game to be good, but the reviews have not sounded promising..

It's got jank and some ugly visuals in spots for sure, but what I watched of a friend play, I actually want to check it out for myself at some point when a sale hits it. That's more than I can say for anything not Sonic Mania in recent releases which I only checked out as a morbid curiosity.

Lost World (Console/PC version) was alright, although I think I'm on the minority on that.

Its way too lonely of a game for me, but it looks like a very good proof of concept for a Sonic game down the road. The zone assets need to be tailored more to each zone and not look like generic props placed in. A little more Mario polish and we have something big.

Well its nice to hear companies saying the quiet part out loud now. Full price for a "playtest".

And again, I can see the potential, deep within it, but its not there yet. The momentum system is funky as hell (sonic should never stop on a goddamn dime), the assets look copy-pasted like XIV 1.0.'s maps and the camera needs SERIOUS work when scaling things and fighting certain bosses, as well as with multiple changes of directions on some stages (no spoilers), but the potential is there.

Its not a good idea, though, for the DEVS to say that, lol. Not when they're not giving all the players out there a "thanks for playtesting this proof of concept for us!" discount.

Yeah this is a pretty stupid thing to say, the game has good ideas and potential but this tells me at some point the dev team threw hands up and was like "I dunno what else to do," like really?

The steam reviews are great, most are just "this game is pretty mid with some jank but also the BEST SONIC GAME EVER!"

Sonic fans have been seriously abused for far too long.

I don't think the reviewers (the major publications) get it really. They're reviewing the game stand alone which is fine, by that perspective their scores are correct.

People are giving it huge praise online because 3d sonic fans don't give a shit at all if there's a ton of jank. It just needs to be fun and way over the top and Frontiers absolutely nails both of those things. The problem with 3d sonic the last 2 decades is that almost all of the games have had something so overwhelmingly bad about them that it cancels out any of that fun factor.

Like this game is literally Metal Gear Rising. They knew exactly what they were doing and it works.

It's stupid to say its a playtest but I know why he said it. The same guy said a few months before release that he intends to make this game and its proof of concept be the new normal for 3d sonic. Higher budget, more polish. They nailed the first part. Now they need to nail the second part.
