FFRK - Iron Will, Iron Fists (VI) Event & Strategies

"Think a "bear" like me could be any help?" - Sabin

Twin brother to Edgar Figaro, Sabin is a young man studying under the martial artist Duncan. Weak as a child, he developed a muscular physique and mastered powerful skills through arduous training. He continues to strive for peace even after the world falls into ruin.

Sabin defeats Vargas using the secret arts Duncan taught him, avenging his master’s death. After rejoining his brother Edgar, Sabin learns of his plan to retaliate against the Gestahlian Empire, and decides to accompany him.

    Event Start Date: June 22
    Event Bonus Battle: June 25
    Event End Date: July 2

All information is taken from a mixture of Reddit/Spreadsheets/Kongpakbao Site and my own obviously expert analysis.

Most info for the event comes from this site: https://www.reddit.com/r/FFRecordKee...c1&sh=d29a6e18

Though the information provided is used as a guideline and not always taken directly from the thread. When necessary, additional thoughts on Cid Missions and battle strategies are added.

    Notable Rewards:
Celestriad - Accessory. MAG +15 and moderate Confuse resist.

Note: Sadly, not anything like the Economizer/Celestriad from the actual game.

    Relics

    Banner 1:
Our time warp is complete. This will be the last banner of the "transitional" format of 1 6* per banner. These were also supposed to happen about a month ago, so those (like me) wanting shots at Mog and Celes's BSB's without interfering with SURF Fest or Cloudkeeper get shafted hard. But there are some things of note.

For an event centered on Sabin, he doesn't get much love. Luckily, Relm, Celes, and Mog do.

Relm gains her Ultra, which is an instant Curaga medica with Stoneskin and party non-charge.

Celes has both of her BSB's on this banner, but the 2nd one is much anticipated. Entry has single target Holy/Ice damage and Grand Cross, along with a self 35% Atk/Def boost. CMD 1 deals 4x Holy/Ice along with a 15% Spellblade boost for 2 turns, while CMD 2 is the usual 2 hit AoE but with Atk/Def bargain.

While a really good BSB on a spellblade focused character, the Magic Master fight in this event can shut down those elements.

Mog joins the "sage" class of BSB's with a support focus. Party Hastega and Mag/Mnd on entry. His CMD 1 is an instant Curaga + High Regen while his CMD 2 is a potent (1060%) single Holy hit + Mag Breakdown.

The returns on the banner include Mog's Atk/Def breakdown SSB dance, Setzer's Full Breakdown SSB, and Cyan's party magic blink.

    Banner 2:
Here is Sabin's love, but its not too amazing.

Sabin's OSB is similar to Agrias, but Fire/Non on entry and receives a bonus if the target is weak to fire. His BSB returns, with CMD 1 offering a counter increase of 10% Atk/Def upon use (up to 8 times) and the standard 2x AoE hits on CMD 2.

Leo gets a shiny new BSB, offering Holy/Earth single target damage on entry and a party Atk/Res buff. CMD 1 is 2 hits along with 2 turns of Knight ability shortcharge, and CMD 2 is 2x AoE hits with Sentinel.

Strago's BSB (along with his Water+ Cloak) returns along with his potent Might Guard VI (Pro/Shell/+100% Res), along with Sabin's Esuna Medica and Physical Blink SSB's and Leo's old SSB.

    Legend Materias:
Banner 1 - Relm: 25% to add Magic Blink to target when using White Mage abilities.
Banner 1 - Celes: 25% chance to double cast Spellblade abilities.
Banner 2 - Terra: 25% chance to double cast fire element abilities*.
Banner 2 - Sabin: Atk buildup when using Monk abilities. 2%/use capped at 34%.

*-The abilities only need to have fire element in them to count, so it applies to fire/ice or tri-element abilities if they have fire present.

Just as a reminder, in deciding between this, Cloud, and SURF, almost all of the good items here do not reappear on the next FF6 banners.

There is an EXP dungeon that runs along side this event, because we were supposed to have it a month ago. Instead, it's made worthless because of SURF Fest.

    Bonus Battles
    Floating Continent +

    Atma Weapon
    HP: 114,983
    Target Score:
    • Defeat Atma Weapon without being KO'ed.
    • Reduce Atma Weapon's magic.

    Null: None
Status Vulnerabilities: Paralyze, Slow, Blind, Sap, Stun

    Nelapa
    HP: 122,170
    Target Score:
    • Defeat Nelapa without being KO'd.
    • Reduce Nepala's magic.

    Weak: Ice, Thunder, Holy
    Absorb: Fire
    Resist: None
    Null: Earth, Wind, Dark, Poison
    Status Vulnerabilities: None

Notes: Nepala can use Reflect and Death Roulette, which will kill a party member. Keep that in mind for medal conditions for mastery.

    Mysterious Fiery Creature ++
    Flame Eater w/Balloon + Grenade
    HP: Flame Eater: 169,935 - Balloon: 4,000 - Grenade: 5,000
    Target Score:
    • Reduce Flame Eater's magic.
    • Reduce Flame Eater's defense.
    • Reduce Flame Eater's resistance.

    Weak: All: Ice, Water
    Absorbs: All: Fire
    Resists: None
Null: Flame Eater: Thunder, Earth, Holy, Poison
Vulnerabilities: Flame Eater: Slow - Balloon: All except Doom, Sap - Grenade: All except Petrify/Sap

Notes: Defeating Flame Eater ends the fight. The Balloons and Grenades can explode and deal their current HP in damage. Shiva or Leviathan can keep them in check.

    Fight is 100% magic based.

    Mt. Koltz +++
    Vargas w/2x Ipooh
    HP: Vargas: 110,082 - Ipooh: 40,012
    Target Score:
    • Reduce Vargas' attack.
    • Reduce Vargas' defense.
    • Exploit Vargas' weakness to poison attacks.

Weak: Vargas: Poison - Ipooh: Fire
    Absorbs: None
    Resist: None
    Null: None
Vulnerabilities: Vargas: Slow, Stop, Stun - Ipooh: Silence, Slow, Stop, Blind

Notes: Ipooh's must be defeated before Vargas can be damaged. 100% physical fight, so note the blind vulnerability on the bears.

Edgar and Quistis RW's can take care of Vargas pretty quick.

    Ultimate + Apocalypse Battles
    Nest of Ghosts (U)
    凶Phantom Train
    HP: 296,579
    Target Score:
    • Reduce 凶Phantom Train's attack.
    • Reduce 凶Phantom Train's magic.
    • Reduce 凶Phantom Train's defense.

    Weak: Fire, Thunder, Holy
    Absorbs: Poison
    Resist: None
    Null: None
    Vulnerabilities: None

Notes: Both magic and physical hits are part of Phantom Train's abilities, though like usual watch out for the magic damage specifically. Affliction Break can help, because Diabolic Whistle can cause Poison/Confuse/Slow/Blind/Doom and Saintly Beam can petrify.

Based on his HP threshold (Normal, Weak, Very Weak), he counters weakness hits 15/20/30% of the time with 凶Acid Rain - an AoE water magic attack that can Sap.

    Magic and Sorrow (U++)
    凶Magic Master
    HP: 350,410
    Target Score:
    • Exploit 凶Magic Master's window of weakness to fire attacks.
    • Exploit 凶Magic Master's window of weakness to water attacks.
    • Exploit 凶Magic Master's window of weakness to poison attacks.

    Weak: Varies
    Absorbs: Varies
    Resist: None
    Null: Earth, Wind, Dark
    Vulnerabilities: None

Magic Master begins the fight weak to fire and will absorb ice. Every 5 attacks against him, he will shift his weakness in a set pattern: Fire -> Water -> Poison -> Holy. He will absorb the opposite element in that sequence: Ice -> Thunder -> Holy -> Poison.

Spoilering his AI, because it is a little massive with all the weakness shifts.

Notes and Strategies: Token physical attack, otherwise you can neglect physical and focus entirely on magic mitigation. Which you'll want to do anyways, because Ultimate Ultima pierces resistance.

No berserk cheesing this time, but he can silence you. Resist accessories and Ultra Cure or Sabin's non-magical Esuna SSB can help you out.

Cid Mission: Celes. Either as a RW or native, Indominatable Blade or Runic will negate all of Magic Master's single target spells. Lot of characters on the FF6 team can deal multiple elements worth of damage. Mog's Hastega is on the banner, and Kefka's Magic Infusion can give a magic based team a solid in-realm Hastega+Faithga.

As mentioned before, Sabin also has a strong SSB magic-less Esuna Medica and Cyan has a magic blink that can be Lifesiphoned.

Take heed for people pulling Celes' new BSB, as she can be entirely shut down on BSB commands depending on what phase Magic Master is in. May be better off using Indonesian Blade and using spellblades or black magic on her instead.

25% chance: Blizzaga (BLK: deal 570% magical ice damage to one target)
20% chance to activate in response to white or black magic: Thundara (BLK: deal 410% magical thunder damage to one target)
15% chance to activate in response to physical attacks: Drain (BLK: deal 315% magical dark damage to one target and recover HP equal to 17% of the damage dealt)

Moveset (Demon, <30% HP: Very Weak):
1% chance: Hard Hit (PHY: deal 344% physical damage to one target with a 30% chance to Confuse them)
10% chance: Thundaga (BLK: deal 342% magical thunder damage to all targets)
20% chance: Thundaja (BLK: deal 490% magical thunder damage to one target)
25% chance: 凶 Flash Rain (NAT: deal 410% piercing magical water damage to all targets)
25% chance: 凶 Poltergeist (NAT: deal 390% magical thunder damage to all targets)
20% chance: Blizzaga (BLK: deal 570% magical ice damage to one target)
1% chance: Dispel (WHT: remove all positive status effects from all targets)
20% chance to activate in response to white or black magic: Thundara (BLK: deal 410% magical thunder damage to one target)
15% chance to activate in response to physical attacks: Drain (BLK: deal 315% magical dark damage to one target and recover HP equal to 17% of the damage dealt)

Notes and Strategies: It will start in its Goddess form, and will stay in this form for 15 turns unless you hit it with a holy attack (you definitely want to make sure you do so prior to her 3rd turn, as she will cast AoE confuse). In addition, if you try to attack it with any non-holy ability, it will counter with AoE Confuse or AoE Sleep.

After the Goddess is hit with a holy attack, it will change to its Demon Form. The Demon form is 100% immune to all physical attacks until it is hit by a fire magic attack. Chadarnook will stay in Demon form for 3 of its turns before reverting back to its Goddess form. You'll then need to hit it with another holy attack to switch it back to Demon Form.

Chadarnook will go back and forth between the two forms until it hits 30% HP, after which it will stay in Demon form and lose its fire vulnerability for the rest of the fight.

While the boss shouldn't be in Goddess form very long, it will either do a 4 hit ST attack or Thundaja. The Demon Form has potent magic attacks (including a piercing water magic damage), but also hasa 4 hit ST attack and a very strong (344% physical damage) ST attack which carries with it a 30% chance to confuse. Both physical attacks can be tauntilated, removing all physical damage from the fight.

You'll be dealing with water, lightning, and ice damage throughout the fight so Gigas Armlets are not recommended. Prioritize lightning first, then water resistance. The Demon form also has a 20% chance to counter white/black magic with a ST Thundara, and a 15% chance to counter physical attacks with a ST Drain.

Note that at the 30% mark (when Fire weakness disappears), Chadarnook will use an AoE regular dispel, so be ready to rebuff at the transistion!

Jump Start Notes: Not quite the "nuke it from orbit" Jump Start we've been used too, mostly due to changing weaknesses and AI trends between Goddess and Demon. Stats and AI do not change between the JS and Apoc fights.

Additionally, everyone starts the fight at 0 ATB. Before Chardarnook can nuke you with Thunder attacks, having a strong Magic Blink user (Cyan, Firion, etc) with a haste materia can make sure you're protected. Firion would also shift it to Demon form quick with his BSB entry, avoiding the AoE confuse.

Mind the weaknesses, and see if you cant time a strong Fire OSB to go off right before the weakness negation at 30% to take advantage of it.

Magic master: I'm kind of curious what the CM fight is like without a lot of power because he did fair damage since I didn't take sent grim (I threw relm usb terra enfire/osb combo, celes indom, setzer bssb and kefka hastega). But not curious enough to try again.

Chadarnook apoc: Celes indom and dingus bssb shut everything except the aoes down and crucially stopped jarring blow from confusing anyone. Ysh for heal, OK for vessel, Terra enfire/osb combo ganked him from about 40 or 50%.

Chadarnook jumpstart: Replaced celes with relm, RW historys truth. Five party powerchains, including using relm usb to initiate the chain train, gave me plenty of actions during demon phase. Ysh had time to cast ss2 and a few pointless curadas before chad died. My usb healers are making a strong case for getting more action.

I did CM without wall. But I did have the luxury of a few key pieces.

Celes: Double Firestrike | Double Waterstrike - Indom blade + BSB2 (Used at the end)
    Setzer: Full Break | MBD
    Sabin: Lifesiphon - Curaga+Esuna SSB
Strago: Chain Firaga | Bioja - Mighty Guard
    Relm: Curada | Ultra Cure

    RW: Eiko USB

Challenging but I was in no threat of being wiped since I had infinite medicas at my disposal thanks to Sabin.

    Done with this asshole.

Last Stand on Relm saved the winning run when Greg took a spell after Runic and Wall lapsed around 30% while I was waiting for the dispel to rebuff. Celes BSB 2 was RW.

OK used BSB cmd1 to chain into Lifesiphon to keep VoF up, and Tyro could keep SG up with a normal attack in between FB/MBD. SB gauge RM's were on everyone else, while Tyro and OK had mako/Dr mog.

Now to figure out JS, cause thus strat won't work for it.

Lucky you! I thought I might throw my iPad at the wall. Didn't have any trouble with the jump battle though, I guess I got a handle of the mechanics and an ideal party by then

Affliction Break plus Mind Breakdown made this a non issue.

Affliction Break didn't help a whole lot when my main DPS would still get Stopped and I really didn't have slots for Mind Breakdown. Heck I couldn't even slot in Protectga and Power Breakdown and had to rely on other things to debuff him.
It's probably ok for MP purposes but as a single boss it's crazy given all you need to carry with you. Aflliction Break, Power Breakdown, Magic Breakdown, Full Break, Shellga and Protectga is 3/4 of your party slots. Adding elemental resistance to everything on top of this makes most characters less viable. He even has an elemental weakness you can't really exploit unless you have Holy OSBs or Hope's relics. That's also an element I'm currently lacking sadly.
