BG TRAVEL THREAD : STEP ONE - REMOVE YOUR SHOES

    Hey everyone,

I travel a lot for work and pleasure and I know some of you other fucks do as well.

Let's have a thread comparing products and all that shit along with sekrit tips and trickz for our less-informed brethren.

I spend wayyyy too much time on Flyertalk and reading other shit to not help a BGer out.

I can help with routing and other questions along with whatever else comes up.

Also, Citi Prestige isn't bad, they have great travel insurance.

    My lineup is:
CSR - P much all my spending. I use it to pay rent and buy everything else.
AAdvantage Executive (Only for the signup bonus and because it's free for the year)
    AA Aviator (Signup bonus)
AMEX Everyday (To hold AMEX points p much)
Citi Premier (To hold Thank You points and signup bonus)

If you aren't willing to put the effort into research, just pick either the AMEX Plat or CSR and use it for everything. The points will add up and you'll get nice benefits.

If anyone is skeptical about airbnb, it's almost all I do now. Haven't tried America yet but Europe has been a blast, typically half the price of hotels with bigger and better rooms which means double the stay. Also, as shitty as some online travel agencies are, sometimes a flight hotel bundle can rape with some free nights. Expedia saved me a shit load on one of the nicest all inclusive hotels in the Caribbean/Mexico that I had no business being at.

Also if you have the option to depart and arrive at two different airports it can save a ton. Going to Spain for next to nothing.

Flying through Spain right now is the move, although TATL (Transatlantic) flights are DIRTY cheap right now thanks to Norwegian and other upstarts dragging prices down.

AirBNB outside the US and parts of Asia is p much the only way to fly. The ridiculous hotel overhead in places like Denmark and the rest of Scandinavia make even moderate hotel rooms absurdly expensive.

We have two booked for our trip to Paris in a few months and both hosts have been helping us with planning side trips and other shit.

Yeah the hosts are one of the best parts about it. Here's a book with every grocery store, pharmacy, hospital, bar, place to eat, their ratings, personal favorites, how welcoming they are to tourists and if they speak English.

Legit have made friendships with some hosts and we send holiday cards to each other.

I'm seriously planning a trip for myself to Hawaii for about a week or so. Who of you have been there and what island do you recommend? I'm thinking of Honolulu. My budget is about $2000 (flight/airbnb should go for about $1300ish maybe a little less) I can go a bit above this, but not much more. GIB ME INFOS.

Not so much for flying/planning, but if you plan on travelling that is going to involve you not being near your hotel room, do yourself a favor and invest in a portable charger for your phone(s). We bought a 10k mah charger from Anker for like 35 bucks. Good enough to charge our IPhone 6S Plu's almost twice each. Best 35 bucks we spent.

GF got two as a gift from a work offsite. We use them all the time. They have saved our bacon more than once.

BG TRAVEL THREAD : STEP ONE - REMOVE YOUR SHOES

Spent 30 days at Schofield Barracks with the occasional bounce to the other islands for a day or two. Oahu should definitely be your destination point to get the most bang for your buck. I'd also recommend staying in the northern region of the island which is not as much of a tourist trap as the Honolulu/Waikiki area. Go cliff jumping homie!

Yeah, we have two as well. Our 10k, and we bought a fuel rod at disneyland since we spend so much time at disney parks. Pricey for the size, but nice that we can drain it, walk to a kiosk, and swap it for a freshly charged one at any time, including airports.

Not sure if they still doing the deal but Chase card thru Southwest was pretty nice if you flying with them. But sign up while buying ticket got $200 credit on the ticket and tons of bonus points. Used it pretty much just for hotel thru their booking and the flight to Florida few months ago and ended up getting enough points to fly back with lol. Dropping them soon though cause fuck yearly fees

I recommend staying somewhere a bit north of Munchen(Munich) to save yourself a few euro. The Oktoberfest site is located right next to the hauptbahnhof(train station) and you can get a Bayern(Bravaria) pass for 32~ euros which is good for 5 people for the entire weekend to anywhere in Bayern. I'd suggest staying in somewhere like either Regensburg, Nurnberg, or Parsberg which are all about a 40 minute train ride to Munchen with a ton of immediate shit to do nearby.

Or if your big balling stay in Garmisch which is absolutely gorgeous and a throwing stone away from Oktoberfest. There's a U.S. military hotel resort called Edelwiess that caters to American citizens there.

Consider flying into somewhere in train distance (Frankfurt, Vienna, Berlin) and spend a day there (on both ends). Also, Frankfurt tends to have much better ticket pricing because of it being a hub for international flights as opposed to Munich. Berlin is somewhat similar.

It really helps to try to find someone who knows the layout and setup to hang out with when you're there. Make sure to book tickets in one of the main tents and book them early.

    EDIT:
Flying into another city is also better because that's obviously a high travel season into Munich. Save some bux.

Flying out of either Westchester (HPN) or JFK cause seriously LGA can go die. I'm thinking around late October or mid November, low 80's sound perfect for that time of year.
