    Hackathons

    Crowdsourcing some info from BG!

I'll just be a semi-autistic STEM nerd and list my questions rather than make a readable post:

    - Have any of you done hackathons?
    - Do you know of any good resources to find them? (the websites I'm finding on google are... interesting. There are tons of them and they all seem to list different events. Not a lot of cross-pollination. Not a bad set of resources but I'm wondering if there is an easier way to find events near me/worldwide events)
    - Did you find hackathons a good way to network?
    - Did you enjoy them?
    - Do you think they helped make you a better coder?
    - Any other thoughts or pieces of advice you'd have for an aspiring hackathoner?

Please feel free to answer any or all or none of the above questions, or just add your own input.

-yes, done about 20 of them.
    - facebook/twitter/meetup.com
    - "ok" at best, if you're less experienced probably better.
    - In general no, I had fun at the first couple but that was more the free food and kinda party atmosphere of them.
    - Absolutely not, if anything they reinforce bad habits.

I went into them with same kinda thoughts as you, good networking opportunities and getting some different experience. Looking back though they were just wastes of time if I'm being honest with myself.

I'm totally inexperienced and need to get more into the coding scene, so it sounds like they might be a good place to start from what you're saying? but not a cure-all for networking and job search issues as I was hoping lol

thanks for the feedback, that helps

Best way to get into the coding scene is to stay at home and learn to google
