Astral Chain is a new action game from PlatinumGames, the creators of the Bayonetta™ series. As part of a police special forces unit in a multi-cultural futuristic city, players work together with a humanoid special weapon, Legion, in a synergetic action system of battle and exploration.
Astral Chain is bringing in the big guns from the studio, with the trailer highlighting the participation of several familiar names from the studio. Hideki Kamiya of Bayonetta and The Wonderful 101 fame is supervising production, with director Takahisa Taura (NieR: Automata, Anarchy Reigns) acting as director. Additionally, character design comes from manga artist Masakazu Katsura.
Kind of surprised there hasn't been much talk about the game. Been having a blast with it so far. The only thing that really gets on my nerves is the game always asking me to set my difficulty between missions.
I've been playing this for the last few days and all I can say is holy shit this game is fun.
I'm honestly surprised how much there is to do and find, all the fun interactions with enemies and the levels and I never thought being a Stand/Persona user in an action game could feel so good. Initially overwhelming in terms of combat but it slowly makes more sense.
The story is nothing special obviously but the way they do investigation and gradually build up cases is great (though a little annoying on repeat playthroughs). Music is great, graphics are excellent and overall the game is a lot of fun.
The only things that have bugged me are:
You can't customize the look of the other sibling, there are not enough unique hairstyles for the main character (imagine picking a style some loser has?!) and gyro controls can eat a dick for aiming and balancing.
Somehow I've put in at least 40 hours and I've finished(?) the game and doing some extra missions so that'll keep me busy for a bit. If you like P+ action games this doesn't disappoint, just give the combat time to sink in and make sense.
I just briefly started it yesterday on the plane. Enjoyed what I played but I won't get a chance to really dive into it until later this week. Liking what I have been reading
