Steam will host demos of some of the indies being featured.
Geoff Keighley, the founder and host of The Game Awards, announced a new project on Wednesday morning called The Game Festival. The Festival is designed to work hand-in-hand with the Game Awards to give players the chance to try out some new games being discussed on the show with Steam acting as the digital event space.
The demos will only be available for 48 hours, but giving fans a way to actually try these games for themselves is an interesting move for the awards show.
This first version of The Game Festival will include over a dozen games demos on Steam. Here’s a preview of the games that will have free demos during the event:
- System Shock (Nightdive Studios)
- Eastward (Pixpil/Chucklefish)
- Spiritfarer (Thunder Lotus)
- Moving Out (SMG Studio/Devm Games/Team17)
- Röki (Polygon Treehouse/United Label)
- Chicory (Greg Lobanov)
- Wooden Nickel (Brain&Brain)
- Haven (The Game Bakers)
- Heavenly Bodies (2pt Interactive)
- Acid Knife (Powerhoof)
- The Drifter (Powerhoof)
- CARRION (Phobia/Devolver)
- Skatebird (Glass Bottom Games)
The Game Festival will begin on Thursday at 1 p.m. ET and end on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET.
I always enjoy this show and how it's continued to evolve for the better over the years. If you look all the way back at the Spike Game Awards (the original version of the show) Geoff did what he needed to in order to gain more investors and show his love of video games. It's become more professional and provides some nice surprises. I don't care for everything in it, and some of the awards are questionable, but it's a panel voting on things, not him. Cheers to Dorito Pope for another successful year.
I really enjoyed Death Stranding, but with the controversy around it's nomination of GOTY, feels like a poor decision to have the opening be focused around it. XD
Wow, Disco Elysium coming out swinging for best Narrative/RPG, incredible. Very Happy about that! Beat some huge contenders.
I think it was my personal game of the year.
Wait, Bravely 2 isn't Bravely Second?
Gamers never change. Put on stage a woman no one can understand because gamers think she was cute at that one other event. What category is this even?

The fast and furious game trailer looked awful and Vin Diesel seemed to have had a few cocktails before going out there.
Disco Elysium deserves everything nice that happens to it but fuckin k l e l k at the creators thanking Marx and Engels during their speech
Can't wait for this year's cringe compilation
