MLB 2019 Post season thread: Let's watch the Dodgers choke again

Another season in the books, and quite a few highlights.

Very good chance the MVP will have finished the regular season the disabled list.

Two long term managers (Bruce Bochy and Ned Yost) have retired.

Clint Hurdle and Brad Ausmus are canned

Felipe Vasquez's career is toast as he rots in jail on child porn and soliciting a minor felonies in Pennsylvania and Florida

Four teams finished the year with 100+ wins, and the A's may have hit that as well if their best offensive player wasn't crippled in that bullshit Japanese opening 3 weeks before the regular season began.

Red Sox didn't make the playoffs, which means I'm safe for not having to choose a lesser of two evils no matter how far or who the Dodgers face this year

And last but not least, Congratulations to the Yankee's AAA club for winning the AL East. God the American League fucking sucks once you get past the Astro's, Yankee's, Twins and A's.

    Opening playoff Rounds

    AL Wildcard: Tampa at Oakland

    NL Wildcard: Brewers at Nationals

    ALDS:

    Twins at Yankees
    AL Wildcard at Houston

    NLDS:
    Cardinals at Atlanta
    NL Wildcard at Los Angeles

I wish I lived near DC because I'm a Caps fan and the Nats are who I like to see do well in baseball. wouldn't outright call myself a fan, but since Strasburg came in, theyve been my team I like to do well

The Bellinger vs. Yelich MVP race is about as close as possible statistically. Both on teams that made the playoffs, and for Yelich's offense vs. Beli's D vs. Yeli's base running vs. Beli's best-player-on-best-team vs. Yeli's extreme clutchness vs. Beli's not getting hurt you can do whatever you want with it.

I guess I'm cheering for the Nats? I dunno who else I like this year. And the Nats giving Harper a big "fuck you" send off by winning it all would be great too.

Also kind of love Scherzer's excessive competitive spirit

Had both on my fantasy team this year, and I think I'd give the edge to Yeli. Bellinger went on a couple slumps at the plate through the season, Yellich was so consistent.

Yelich came up to the plate 48 times in high leverage situations, and his 287 wRC+ is the best in the game in those situations and much higher than Bellinger’s 133 wRC+ in 57 PA. In medium-leverage and low-leverage situations, the two players were nearly identical (164 wRC+ for Yelich versus 163 wRC+ for Bellinger)

Also, you can make Bellinger a bad hitter by shifting.

Bellinger has a 75 wRC+ in more than 300 plate appearances against the shift.

I heard a nice rebuttal to the "Bregman > Trout bc playoffs" talking point

If you take Bregman off the Astros... they're still a loaded division champion

Unless the player is actually having some demonstrable "team" effect beyond their own numbers (e.g. a catcher boosting a pitching staff), I don't think it should be much of a consideration.

Voters don't care. I made the same argument for Trout over Cabrera the year he got the Triple Crown, as the Tigers would have still been a good to great team that year without him, but the Angels were hot garbage until Trout came up and raised them to mediocrity.

That one was even more of a travesty because the argument for Cabrera was basically "RBIs!"

Archi I really hate dc teams and their fans. Call the brewers up and tell them to handle business so I can have an amazing day at work tomorrow.
