No, but the wording around Control is ambiguous.

"Control helps to reduce the occurrence of aetherial sparking (see below), and exerts its influence over both types of recipes just mentioned."

Not sure if that means "control makes you get sparks less, for both kinds of recipes" or "control makes you get sparks less, and impacts progress/durability for both kinds of recipes". I tend to believe the former.

I read it as "control reduces chance of sparks for all recipes."

Looks like I'm replacing all my "control" shit with magic/craftsmanship where possible. The only time I've ever really come across sparks, even with recipes 5+ ranks above me is when I'm doing shitloads of waiting to stabilize an element... and that doesn't really happen too often.

By both kinds of recipes they could be talking about crafting recipes and m. crafting recipes, meaning control might be the main factor in reducing sparks, but also has a smaller, but equal role in both types of crafting. I don't think everyone should abandon all their control gear (mostly because you have no choice for the most part) right away.

Control exerts is influence over all recipes. Control's influence is to reduce the occurrence of sparks. I really doubt it has any other meaning unless the article is mistranslated.
