Ok the next basic main feature for Archeage is Trade Runs !

To start off with, I just want to remind people that ArcheAge is partial loot PVP. The main 50 slots in your inventory are safe(so is your money), but if you want to carry more loot, you need to bring backpacks or resource packs to carry heavy loads. The more load you carry the slower your walking speed gets (and your mount speed if your carrying a pack on a mount), and it is these items that can be looted from dead corpses.

Essentially anything you place in your back slot can be looted.

    Trade Runs

Trade Runs are essentially dailies that you need to do in order to get special coins called Delphi Coins. Delphi coins are used to buy blueprints. Houses, Boats, Castle segments, and all crafted items require a blueprint to start making.

When you go to a npc, they will tell you to craft an item for them, the crafted item will be too heavy to carry. So you will need to carry a resource pack on your back. Then the NPC will instruct you to give that item to another NPC somewhere in the world.

e.g. You are a blacksmith and you want to buy a blacksmith recipe(blueprint) from the blacksmith shop. But it costs 20 Delphi Coins. You will then need to go to the Blacksmith guild leader npc and he will give you a daily quest. He will give you a recipe to create 100 iron ingots, and then will tell you to give it to a fellow blacksmith npc somewhere in the world. You only have 50 slots so you have to put 100 ingots into a resource pack and place it on your back.

Pretty much all the Trade run dailies are like this, so it doesn't matter what crafting guild you belong to. They are all very similar. If you want to build a boat, house, castle or even buy baby animals to train, then you will need to these dailies to get Delphi coins.

Here are some of the basic Trade Routes in ArcheAge

    The Journey

You will need to haul that resource package to a NPC somewhere in the world. If your a blacksmith you can give the package to any blacksmith npc in the world for example, but the closer the NPCS are to the quest giver the less credit you get. The ultimate crafter npcs are on a small island in the middle of the northern ocean, so if you are able to trade the packages with them you get the most coins. The trick is that all factions, and guilds use these same NPCs to turn in their packages. So most of these trade in spots are highly contested, and major wars break out between guilds to see who can control the flow of resources.

But the Journey is a dangerous one, because you have to carry a trade package, it can be looted by anyone. If anyone kills you and loots your corpse, they can turn it the package themselves, and they get the quest credit. If you die and get looted then you will have to go to another city where they have a npc guild and get the daily from there.

Pirates are red to all NPC's except for the guild npcs. So for a pirate to get the delphi coins he needs, he is going to have to kill other players to get their loot, and turn in to get the credit.

    Other Rules

If you kill more than 50 players you go red for 4 hours. When in a red state you can lose something from your main inventory slot if you die. Also there will be a bounty and if you die you will go to jail to await trail. If your a Pirate, you will always be red, and always get sent to jail if you die. It's one of the drawbacks of being a pirate.

Also if you camp a area for more than a hour your will go red for 4 hours as well. But you only get a bounty on your head if you kill more than 50 players.

    Other Resources

If your a gatherer or a harvester you might have to carry loads of more than 50 slots, and if you do you might get ganked and lose your items.....

    Examples

Here are some players spawn camping the ultimate crafter npcs on the island in the middle of the northern ocean. They are killing players and looting their packages and getting the credit when turning them in...lol

Stealing a Cargo ship full of resources, apparently some idiot thought they could do all their dailies at once and solo them..lol

This twitch stream shows a pirate guild stealing tons of trade packages in just 30 mins.

So what to do against all these enemies? Well there are mercenary guilds that will offer protection for a price. Or if you are in a large guild, gather up all the players who need to do the trade run dailies and protect them.

    Here are some examples.

Here is a large guild that gathers up all the players in the guild that need to do trade runs while other members offer protection.

So what does Elrar of Trion think of these Trade Runs ?

Man, this game looks fun as shit, and I'm not even into PVP in MMOs.

  5. #245

Honestly leaves me more inclined to never touch a craft. Especially if griefing to such a scale is possible.

I am not sure how to feel about that particular aspect of the game play. It seems to lack any real sense of fun...

I find ArcheAge to be a mixture of Rift/Lineage. I went with Rift, because ArcheAge actually has the same Rift system as Rift does. Rifts spawns and enemies come out and wreak havoc. Then they have Region wide events just like Rift does.

Here is a Rift that has spawned

This is one of the end game region wide events.

Lvl 1-39 is a casual quest hub solo grind, like you will find in any themepark, it even has a few 3-5 man dungeon instances, and a arena. But then at lvl 40 the game takes a 180 degree turn, and the game turns into Lineage with the Rift system(0 raids and instances, it's just one big open world). Jake Songs theory was that he wanted to ease the WOW/Thempark crowed into a old school style sandbox. Don't know if it will work here in the West, but we shall see.

Safe regions are lvl 30 and below. Although there are safe regions in harbors. If your smart you can hang around the safe areas to get your trade runs done.

Here is someones first trade run with English commentary.

    The Honor System

ArcheAge doesn't have a PVP ranking system, and it doesn't keep track of your win lost record. But what it does is have a honor system.

It's simple you kill a enemy faction/guild player you get 5 honor points, if you die in PVP to a enemy faction/guild you get -5 honor points.

If you guild is at war with another guild it's +20 honor points, and +40 honor points if you kill the guild leader. You still get -5 honor points if you die in a GvsG war.

Declaring a GvsG war is the same as in Tera, except war deceleration items only drop from heroic open world bosses, not from NPC's. So open worlds bosses tend to get extremely contested.

If you don't like open world PVP, ArcheAge also has an arena, it's just like having a duel. If you accept having a duel with an enemy player/faction you will be sent to an instance arena where you duel it out. You get 5 honor points for a win, - 5 points for a loss.

***ArcheAge used to have Battle grounds as well, but Xlgames dropped it in Open Beta due to the outcry of Koreans wanting open world PVP. Trion may bring these back in the Na version.

In every major city they have Honor NPC's which you can buy stuff for honor points. Most of the gear is ok, but not as good as crafted. The weapons you can buy all have a special skill that you can use.

You can also buy mounts with honor points.

The Basic 5,000 honor points mount

    The 10,000 honor points mount

    The 20,000 honor points mount

It's exactly like Farmville in almost every way. Except you can exchange labor point potions and rare items between Archeville and ArcheAge. My daughter has already downloaded the game and is playing it..lol

This is the official XL games video

They have a English version already, if anyone wants.

For those that don't know, Apple has invested money into Xlgames. So there will probably be lots of these little games coming for IOS. They are even working on a IOS Version for ArcheAge, they hope to have ready for CN-AA release.

Here is a CN Iphone commercial.

Third Continent (Land of Origin) and Castle Siege.

The biggest continent is called the Land of Origin, and it's just like Eve Online's Null-Sec. Players who venture into these lands are free to attack anyone or be attacked by anyone. Guilds can claim land and control the resources there. There are 37 territories to claim and one neutral territory.

Two NPC factions at start, 2 starting continents, and 4 races, depending which race you chose you will belong to one of these NPC factions (western or eastern).

*Eventually enough people will get enough Karma and form a 3rd faction called the Pirate faction.

Guilds are formed from players of the same faction. Players from other factions can't join your guild.

A guild can then buy a land claim territory item from the shop and bring it to The Land of Origin. Once a guild claims the territory a big huge sword comes out of the ground. Once you claim territory your guild will turn into a "Expedition Force"(It's just like a corporation from Eve online).

And now as a Force, the leader can set the relationship to other Forces: Friendly, Neutral, Hostile, and that's how its possible to form alliances or mortal enemies.

Guild claiming their first piece of land, and becoming a "Expedition Force"

The huge sword is vulnerable during a siege. If the Sword is destroyed during a siege then the Force who destroyed it will claim the territory to that land.

So Forces build up big walls around the sword to protect it. Most Forces also build towns/cities inside the castle walls as well, making it their home base.

Same guild building their Guild Hall inside the castle walls, that they also built

    Siege Warfare

A Siege happens when an enemy force takes a war declaration item and trades it to the Big Sword, and 48 hours after that (preparation phase) the Siege should start (don't worry it only starts when the next open phase starts).

    Siege Warfare Videos

If the defensive Force wins, nobody can attack attack them for the next 4 days (peace phase). If the attacking Force wins, than they can demolish all the buildings from the losing Force and start to re-build the new territory that they have just won.

If your Force can win 3 territories or more, you can declare yourself your own faction, and the rewards increase, ie more taxes, labor points, more resources and other stuff. You can now invite anyone from any faction into your own Faction.

*As you can see everything in the Land of Origin (Third Continent) is player made and destroyed.

    Pet System in AA

Xl games announced an upgrade to the Pet Breeding system today. So I thought I should explain what Pets are all about in ArcheAge.

In ArcheAge you need to raise them from little critters. So if you want a mount, you need to raise a pet to become a mount. If you want a battle pet to be at your side, again you need to raise it to become a battle pet.

You get you first little critter for free by doing a quest at around lvl 5. After that you need to purchase them using Delphi Coins(From doing Trade routes).

Pets Wear Armor and have their own stats

That's right pets have their own interface screen (or mount screen), where you can see your pets current equipment and stats such as: experience, HP, MP, Physical Defense, Magical Defense, Speed...

They have 3 equipment slots on them (head, saddle, feet) for additional armor which will increase its defense, HP, leggings can give movement speed bonus... To get basic gear, just go to the Pet NPC but for more advance gear you need to craft them.

    Pet Stats Window

    Pets have their own Level's

Pets have their own levels, and in order to keep them gaining XP, they must be summoned while you are killing mobs (they are not getting XP when the player turns in quests, nor from gathering or crafting), but you have to be careful and always keep an eye on them since they die really fast if a mob arrgo's them.

If you notice your pet has arrgoed a mob and it's HP is dropping, just unsummon it fast, this is by far the best solution to keep it alive, and when the danger is over, just resummon it again, and the mount will be back with the same amount of HP as before. If you are unlucky and the pet dies, you can temporary resurrect it, but it will have only 1 HP and it will run 30% slower.

To "fix" your pet, you need to bring it to the NPC near a stable, and for a fee (depending on the level of the pet) the NPC will revive your pet. But don't forget the game wold is huge and stables are only available on the starting continents. The north continent there are no NPCs to revive your pet, but there is an item that will fix it when it dies, this item can be bought from the stable NPCs, but its extremely expensive.

When the pet reaches a certain level, it will unlock new abilities to use!

    Offensive Pets

Offensive pets are referred to as Battle Pets in ArcheAge. Battle Pets are different from your Mount pets. While Mount pets can attack enemies they just don't have the attacking power as the Battle pet has. So the Mount Pets are referred to as Defensive Pets.

Differences between a Mount pet and a Battle pet

Keeping the fact that all the usual pets can be used for attacking, but they are all significantly weaker than the Battle Pets.

    Some comparison:

-Mount Pets can be used as attacking pets too but they are significantly weaker
-Battle Pets cant be used as mounts.
-Both pet types have the same Character Screen and use the same equipment.
-Both pet types have the same basic controls (skills), while the active skills differ.
-Pets can be obtained from a level 5 quest, but to create a Battle pet you need to do a quest at lvl 25.
-Battle Pets start of as a level 25 pet with 2 active skill and 3 more to be unlocked.
-Leveling a Battle Pet is the same as any pet.
-Gearing a Battle Pet is the same as any Pet.

Ordinary pet stats on the left, a Battle pets stats on the right. As you can see a Battle pet has significantly more power.

After you do the lvl 25 quest, you can now raise a little critter into a Battle Pet. Like I said before you can buy little critters from NPC's using Delphi coins(from trade runs). To turn a little critter into a Battle pet you need to feed it certain foods and gathered items while the little critter is growing up. You also need to do certain quests as well to get special items to feed it.

Here is a video that shows the process in super fast speed motion

Battle Pet's abilities and Skill Bar

The Battle Pets basic control menu is similar to the Mount Pets menu (except the Mount/Dismount and the Eject Passenger buttons, which are missing):

There are 5 Modes to chose from but only one can be active at a time.

Follow Mode - The Battle Pet will follow you
Aggressive Mode - The Battle Pet will attack the enemy if its in close range.
Protective Mode - The Battle Pet wont engage into combat before the player starts the fight.
Neutral Mode - The Battle Pet wont attack the enemy no matter what.
Stay Mode - The Battle Pet will stay put and wont follow you.

Battle Pet Information Window - This opens up the mounts character window.
De-summon Battle Pet - To unsummon the pet, useful command in case the pet is dropping health rapidly and its not in close range to see whats actually going on.

    Other commands

    Active skills (bottom row):

The Battle Pet gets randomly gets skills as he grows up. The first skill is the same with every Battle Pet, but the other 4 are randomly given.

    1. Skills available immediately when getting the pet

    -Blow with his paw
    -Sprint
    -Treatment (treats himself)

    2. Level 30 Battle Pet skills

-Buff skill (increases the pets attack speed by 30% for 7 seconds)
-Deceleration (when activated the wolf strikes and slows the target down for 4 seconds)

    3. Level 40 Battle Pet skills

-Knockdown (deals damage and knocks down the target)
-Bleeding (deals damage and causes bleeding effect on target)

    4. Level 50 Battle Pet skills

-Taunt (single target) - monster will attack the target instead of the player
-Mass Taunt (AOE)- monsters around the Battle Pet will attack it instead of the player

Naming the Battle Pet and having fun with your Battle Pet

The most important thing is you can name your Battle Pet to any name you wish and have fun with him/her.

Video of Players training their Battle Pets

    Types of Battle Pets

Currently there are 2 types of battle pets. Basic and Advance ones.

    Basic Battle Pets

The Western Faction can currently get the 3 Basic Wolf Pets. Black Wolf, Grey Wolf, and White Wolf.

The Eastern Faction can currently get the 3 basic Cat Pets. Orange cat, Grey Cat and Tabby Cat.

    Advance Battle Pets

When your Pet skills get to advance ranks you can get otherworldly Battle Pets to be at your aide. These are much more powerful than the basic Battle Pets.

    Black Panther Battle Pet

    Golem Samurai Battle Pet

    Defensive Pets

Defensive Pets are referred to as Mount Pets in ArcheAge, as you can ride Defensive Pets. Mount Pets can attack but they don't have any attacking power, but they do have a ton of HP. When you attack with a Mount pet, your mount will attack while your riding on top of him/her.

ArcheAge is a huge world, and exploring it on foot would be massively time consuming, so luckily you can create Mount Pets to explore the world and to get to your desired location faster. They are also handy to use as a shield to get away from a player or mob.

Gearing and leveling the Mount Pet is the same as any Pet.

    Raising a Mount Pet

To raise a Mount Pet you need to do a quest at lvl 5 and upon finishing the quest you get your first little critter for free. If you want more little critters to raise, you need to buy them from NPC's for Delphi Coins(From Trade Runs).

To turn your little critter into a Mount pet you need to feed it certain foods and gathered items while the little critter is growing up. Again you need to do special quests to get some of the special items to feed it.

Here is a video that shows the process in super fast speed motion

    Dual-Mount Pets

Many of the Mount pets can be raised to carry 2 passengers instead of 1. This is extremely handy, if there are two persons on a mount, the person on the back is free to shoot with his bow at things in range, while the person in front is "driving" it. (Handy in Battle)

    The Basic Mount Pet Controls

There are 5 modes to chose from which only 1 can be active at a time.

Follow Mode - The Mount follows you.
Aggressive - The mount will attack the enemy if its in close range.
Protective - The mount wont engage into combat before the player starts the fight.
Neutral - The mount wont attack the enemy no matter what.
Stay - The mount will stay put and wont follow you.

    Other Commands

Mount/Dismount - When the mount is summoned clicking on this icon will make you ride it or get off from it.
Mount Information Window - This opens up the mounts character window.
Eject Passenger - This forces the passenger to get off from your horse, btw anyone can get on anyone's mount (to the passengers place).
De-summon Mount - To unsummon the mount, useful command in case the mount is dropping health rapidly and its not in close range to see whats actually going on.

    Types of Mounts Pets

There are lots of little critters that you can raise into a Mount pet.

    Horses

There are over 15 types of Horse Pets that you can get which vary in speed and stats. The Nunians can get a special Horse Pet that comes with better speeds and stats.

    Lions

Lions are a special Pet that can only be used by the Ferre.
    Movement speed 9.24 m/s.

    Deer

Deer are a special Pet that can only be used by the Elves.
    Movement speed 8.92 m/s.

    Tare

Tare are a special pet that can only be used by the Hariharan.
    Movement speed 8.715 m/s.
Has a unique ability to become invisible with it's rider.(Has Stealth)

    Yata

Can be used by anyone, and they sorta look like Jar-Jar Binks From Star Wars.
    Movement speed 10.395 m/s.
They also have the ability to jump super high to get into those tough to reach places.

    Donkey

The Donkey can be used by all races.
    Movement speed 7.56 m/s
Donkeys have a buff, to increase its movement speed while loaded (rider with backpack) by 40% for 20s.

    Cow

The Cow can be used by all races. It's considered a Mount pet because you can ride them.
    Movement speed 7.35 m/s
You can milk cows for milk, to be used in cooking, or slaughter them for meat.

    Farm Pets

Farm pets are called Livestock in ArcheAge, and they are very different than other pets.

-Livestock don't like you, so they constantly run away. You need to house them in a fenced area, coop, or barn. Scarecrows works as well, as they think someone is watching them.

-Livestock can be stolen from other players. Scarecrows work well for this as they put a 15m circle safe zone around them. But guild members can always steal them, as they are your friends..lol

-Livestock constantly need to be feed and groomed, or they will get sick and die. They can also catch a disease, and if not dealt with, it can spread to your other livestock. Even worse it can spread to your neighboring farmers livestock. Livestock also have a life span, so you need to put them out to pasture so to speak, after they expire....lol

-ArcheAge has a climate system, if you grow your livestock in a temperature they don't like, they won't produce as much food and materials for your farm.

-Growing, maintaining, and harvesting Livestock uses up Labor power. So you need to be careful what you do with Livestock.

    Types of Livestock

lol this game is crazy, they packed in so much crap into every staple MMO system. Pets/mounts always seem like an afterthought in most MMOs, but once again, this actually has me interested in it. Hurry up and translate this shit, there's literally no MMO out there(maybe Defiance to relive Borderlands) that I care to play atm.

If you decide to go down the artistry(musican/bard type) path you can use the default settings for your music, or you can create your own music. I think it's cool that some players have gone and created their own music.
