New PC won't connect to the internet

After building my new PC and getting it to run I tried to connect it to the internet today to upgrade my drivers/etc. however I came across a bit of a problem, the computer won't get online after I ran a wire from my router to it.

I tried to run a troubleshooter and all Windows said is I need to install a network adapter, however from the back everything seems fine on my end. LEDs in the back of the PC are indicating the line between my router/PC are rine, and my router's LED is on to indicating it has the line to. So what else could it be?

Do what it says, install the network adapter. You can't just connect a freshly built PC to the internet just by plugging the ethernet cable in, your motherboard should have come with a driver CD and the network adapter should be on there. If you don't have one then you are going to need to find the driver for your network adapter and put it on a USB stick or something and transfer it over.
