2010-11 Bowl Mania Pick Em & College Football Bowl Discussion Thread

2010 Football Pick Ems -- College, NFL, Eliminator
We're less than three weeks from the start of the college football season, and it's time to start the games.

Standard rules for all three games:
Incorporate your BG login into your team name somehow.
One entry per person per game.
No group prize except your name on the list below. If you finish in the top few people out of all 500,000 or whatever that participate, there's some nice swag ($1,000 Best Buy GC's and the like). You have to register with ESPN.com to sign up, but it's free and you can turn off e-mail spam easily enough.
There will be only one winner for BG. If there is a tie at the end of the contest, we'll use the grand prize tiebreakers to sort it out.

    College Pick Em

    Front Page: http://games.espn.go.com/bowlmania/en/frontpage
Group Name: Order of the Blue Gartr
    Password: wareagle

The game is a pick em confidence game. For each of the 35 bowl games, you pick the winner. Then you rank all the games in confidence. If you get your 35 confidence game right, you get 35 points, 34 gets you 34 and so on down to the point where you've got no idea if Ohio or Troy is better, so you give that a 1 confidence rank. Those are the ones you want to miss. One of the advantages to the game is that you only have to visit it once, rather than weekly and forget to make your picks for a week.

Let me know if you have any questions about the game or problems registering with ESPN, either by posting here or PM.

Hope to see you all there.

And why don't we have a BG sports icon like we have so many others?

Previous winners of BG's ESPN games:

I wish you could just number them all manually, dragging them is still a pain in the ass.

First three bowl games are tomorrow, bumping to remind people to get their picks in. Don't want to miss out on the excitement of Ohio U. vs. Troy!

God dammit. I fucking picked BYU to win as my 24, and changed it from UTEP yesterday, yet it says I picked UTEP. What the fuck. :/

Oh well, there goes 24 points and my chance to win, all on the first game because of a technical fuck up.

Yeah.. except it turns out UTEP is the 30, not 24. So it hurts my chances. Gaaah. I had BYU set in Yahoo as my 27 and 30 on ESPN just because I actually read up on BYU, but not saving.. oh well.

Turns out a few games had my picks fuck up. Stanford/VT, I had Stanford, and it switched to VT, and I know for a fact that since the bowl was announced, I've NEVER liked VT in that game. It was Stanford all the way, so assuming Stanford wins, there goes 12. I had ND over Miami at 21, and now it's showing Miami. Basically lost 3-5 picks right there if they turn out the right way, all because of system errors on ESPN's part, lol. Bah.

I made my picks a while ago and totally forgot to get around to rearranging my confidence values...but it's sorta working out since at the moment I have 69 points. And I have Troy goin for my 33 point pick. Woot woot.

EDIT: Ahhhh god damn it. I forgot to join the BG group.

Anybody know why Boo Jackson didn't start/play much?

Who's Boo? lol D: Was he one of Ohio's QBs? If so, I dunno. They were behind like..instantly. Surprised they didn't throw the ball more.

Yeah, he's the one that was playing every drive where they didn't have a turnover or go 3 and out, and all 3 td's were passes by him.

But he didn't start, and their first drive was an int, then he came in and led a td drive, then barely played again until the game was way out of hand, and all the rest of his drives in the first half were run run pass 3 and outs.

Fuck if I know. I don't think they had a chance either way with the way Troy was running their non-stop offense. Almost like a Oregon Junior, lol. Jerell Jurnigan's a beast too. I could see him going third round to a team in need of a good KR and maybe WR too. He's like Desean Jackson a lot. Came from my town too.

Anyway, if that guy was in, at least it'd probably be a better game lol

So reports are out that five players from Ohio State, including Pryor, are going to be suspended for the first five games next year due to receiving improper benefits in 2009. Curious why they aren't suspended for the Sugar Bowl too, but holy shit that's major.

the 'improper benefits' were trading autographs for tattoo work. lame. but the kids that go to bowl games get all kinds of free shit and manage to never get in trouble.
