Either everyone you talked to was retarded, or they "fixed" him cause i 4 maned him and he was a comeplete joke, yes he does get stronger if you leave him alive, (or more specificly if you let him do to many mighty strikes) but it's hardly an issue, tho i did have to spam cure the mnk alot but we were seal farming mostly, and it still wasn't an issue, people were saying the same shit, i think they just fixed him.

and mind you our set up was MNK/War in mainly -PDT gear WHM (me) BLM and a very gimp rdm/dnc (don't ask cause i don't know either) which wasn't even needed cause all he was doing was nuking for terrble damage, so it may as well have been a trio.

mighty strikes gives about +10% dmg dealt, invincible gives about -10% dmg taken, both are cumulative and doesn't seem to have a recast for either, if they cap it's at least 75%

with nin + whm and 3/4boxed thf and blm(for procs/TH only, weren't actively used for anything), had no issue with it whilst getting 10 each of dnc and mnk seals.. one wipe in there where it used invinc 3x in first 2 minutes and just got worse from there but generally harmless
