TAY can stretch out a fair bit if you want to 100% each chapter. This is mainly by virtue that u need to clear the challenge dungeon multiple times and the bad drop rate on top of the rare encounter rate of the dragons and all.
I skipped the tails but focused more on bestiary.. If its enough to get me a 100% art/music I'll take it as my perfect game together with all bands and maxed characters.
FF4s EQ system was such that you don't always have an absolute best EQ piece for each character so I let that slide lol
One thing that really bugs me in TAY is how the random encounter rate gets higher the lower level you are. Not only that, but enemy back/priority attack rate are increased as well.
If you're low level, obviously you don't want to fight random encounters and the game punishes you for that.
obviously the game would like to alleviate your problem of being too low levelled by giving you more chance to exp!
