He uplifts planets then puts them down.
that a deleted scene? I dont remember there ever being an older Engineer...
Spoiler: show
saw it today in a premium theater in 3d. The bigger screen and seat-shaking speakers really made a difference and it was better than I was expecting anyways. Idiocy and unexplained ai psychopathy were nearly identical to the aliens movies, unfortunately.
Okay so I saw this earlier today and realized when I bought the ticket that it wasn't regular IMAX but the 3D version. I only recommend seeing it IMAX for the theatre enhancements (dat Prometheus ship) cause the added 3D really didn't do anything for the film except for one scene maybe two. The film would've been fine without the 3D imo.
Having said that I think I might be one of the rare types that upon leaving the theatre felt slightly disappointed with the film. Only slightly not a lot. I think the main problem for me was that the film was over-hyped. I didn't hate it like a lot of others here nor loved it like some. I thought overall it was decent and not on par with Alien/Aliens. A 7.5/10. The RedLetterMedia review (Half in the Bag) pretty much sums it up for me. Great atmosphere/environment horrible ending.
However after reading a lot of shit on this thread, I've liked it more and would like to see the rest of the "Prometheus" story unfold. I understand they can't explain everything in one film cause there's going to be more (sequels to this) released right?
One thing tho that bugs me above all else is when they decide to redo or go back to the past in films that feature worlds more technologically advanced, the tech is or appears more advanced than the shit in the future. The only thing that looked primitive was the Engineer's tech (<3 Giger). Anyone else bothered by that?

Only thing I need explaining, since I think the movie explained everything else rather well, why did the mohawk guy come back and not the biologist?
I don't recall seeing the other Engineer either...
Oh you're right that was a confusing point. Wait why aren't we using spoilers anymore?...

I actually thought the 3D was great, the. Stuff wasn't shooting out at you like most 3d movies go for, but there was a very good sense of depth even on interior scenes that I never got from other 3d movies I've seen. Then again, it may have been due to the +1 screen I saw it on that was actually calibrated correctly and XL. Not to mention, when the ship landed on the planet, my seat was shaking too due to subs under the seating.
'Twas rudimentary, but here it is further explained. In the scene with the proto-aliens after the black goop affected the worms in the room, the biologist is attacked by an evolved worm. It breaks his arm, and slips inside his suit, working it's way to the biologist's mouth and presumably eats him from the inside.
The geologist is covered in the black goop and I assume he died there as the plastic from the helmet was molding to his face, but I suppose he instead gets evolved into a plot device to open the bay doors.
All in all, this wasn't a bad film by any stretch. It was great. I can't wait for Shaw to fuck shit up across the universe in the sequel. Come on! Android & Survivalist to the extreme running around in an advanced alien ship? AWESOME!
Makes sense, Prometheus/jockeys gets broken down like in the beginning of the film, but humans get "evolved" instead. Holloway probably would have ended up like Mohawk guy in the end if he wasn't toasted instead. Took me awhile to wrap my head around how many different mutations of aliens they showed from the black goo, it was pretty awesome of a movie imo.
Well remember this. When Alien was made Hollywood was at X level of special effects that they could do. Now we are at X+30 years or a level of special effects. Even if they try and make it look less advanced than the 1st movie, with our current level of CGI and other special effects it will look better. I think they did try and not go over the tech of the original. Sleep for the long distance for example. They had just normal pistols and shotguns. And the flame thrower.
So many of my students do not like the older movies, or think they are cheesy simply because they are "not real" looking enough. Go watch "The Watcher in the Woods". the toy car exploding off the bridge, classic.
