I'm 76 hours in and still need to finish Noctis's fishing skill to platinum the game. Granted I switched games to play another while in the middle of XV or I would of finished it earlier. It depends on how much you want to get out of the game in regards to its length. But the story telling was a big issue to me.

I will chime in and say the way Elemancy is explained is the worst. I don't think it ever once suggests throwing in items for synthesis which is how you're gonna get more than 3 casts. The cactuar timed quest gave a shitton of Mega Potions and Remedies so I had a bunch of 20-use Healcast -ga spells for a while.

I'm pretty mixed on this game as a whole with about 80 hours invested and only needing Cooking/Survival/Fishing for platinum and the vault dungeons left to explore, none of which I'm gonna do. I can appreciate the amount of content the game offers as a whole but the long and troubled development really shows for a game that has spread itself so thin across so many avenues. 90% of quests are repeated to the point of repeated dialogue, making the open world kind of a take it or leave it affair. There's an indescribable floatiness to just about everything when it comes to controlling Noctis.

About the only things I appreciate are the food porn and just the 4 bros being bros. The plot is a mess though the main story is serviceable.

This is why I haven't beaten the game. Sidequests are boring so I stop playing. I won't do the story till I do them because I know if I finish the game I'll never go back to it.

    Preach.

Can't really disagree with the above posts. The game has it's bright points but it also have a lot of glaring flaws.

Honestly just do 80 side missions for the achievement for platinum, then who cares. At least that was how I looked at it. There are still a handful of ones you want to do, such as all the car upgrades and the dungeons for the arms

Hunts are aggravating in that they are "only take 1". This was especially annoying in boattown because fucking boats.

The arbitrary limits on what you can accept become pretty dumb in postgame as well. Superbosses and quest-related are never locked, but whoa there can't take this level 38 hunt because you're not rank 5 yet. Not to mention there's what 3-4 restaurants in Lestallum with their own hunt lists?

I do want to bring that up too: Sprint being disabled in towns, traded out for "brisk jogging". That shit is annoying in towns and dungeons alike. The constipated crouch walk of "hurry the hell up jesus christ".

theres no hiding it. the storytelling in FFXV was trash. It has probably less than half the number or duration of cutscenes compared to any other modern FF with voice acting. Quantity isn't everything of course - FFXII had the least prior to XV but was a masterpiece of storytelling. This just flat out seemed rushed.

Hunts were annoying cos of the 1 at a time limit and the fact that most of them are found in the same place which you have to trek back to. They also didn't throw in a lot of mob variation, considering that there aren't that many different enemies to begin with already.

that being said, even the games achievements appear to be made for new players because you don't have to do most of the stuff to completion to earn the platinum, which is a first for main series FF titles.

I bought the game shortly before the booster pack released pre-Christmas which had an accessory that made sprint unlimited. I hated what you described, but also hated how I couldn't simply fuckin run, because I am 'tired'. I never took it off since.

Your issue I hated too. I will choose when I walk slower in towns, it's why the analog stick was invented, no need to force me.

Games I actually bother with to get platinum I have to really like and it has to not include retarded shit. So out of all my games I have like 5 platinum? And while FF15's are easy as fuck it fails the first criteria hard. So no OCD from me to get this platinum.

You don't need an accessory to sprint infinitely

Holdover from an older build that they didn't bother to remove, I imagine. Not to mention one of those things it's pretty forgivable to not even know exists.

Also did you know weapons actually have movesets beyond just "hold circle"? I sure as fuck didn't for a long time. The dumb imprecise constraints of tying your attack button to basically just an on/off switch.

It's not like this is a fundamentally broken game but it's so full of half-baked ideas. Not unlike a certain other MMO.

Yeah I knew of being able to change my attack somewhat if I directionally held my stick while holding/mashing O.

I didn't have much incentive to change my weapons though. I was fine 90% of the time with the default sword.

I know, but fuck the trick, which iirc is basically pressing O again at the right time when it almost runs out? I'd hate doing that shit for 27 hours. Now I didn't have to pay attention to my stamina at all.

Me neither, I tried lance and greatsword early on frequently, but for the rest of the game it was basically sword all the way with a minute here and there equipping a lance "for fun".

Not until you now said it. And I have been moving the stick around while pressing O, so I should have seen it at some point.

In the very end I went with daggers because it builds Armiger gauge so much faster. Used Greatsword/Sword for most of the game. The annoying part about the alternate movesets is that they're based on directional input (forward, back, side for some weapons) relative to your target. In a game with a 3d camera.

When the "regular" fire on Greatsword is a slow as fuck baseball swing and the forward combo is much faster slashes I don't want the goddamn baseball swing, game.

There is also a "attack, pause (Noct does a short backstep), attack" chain for most weapons. Greatsword's is an area sweep. Most other weapons it's some kind of knockdown.

theres 4 ways to sprint infinitely afaik.

    1. the stamina badge accessory (i think it was from the event)
    2. royal raiments without jacket (dlc costume)
    3. food effect. any dish that gives Endurance.
    4. the stamina trick. press the sprint button just as your stamina bar is almost completely depleted to refresh it.

the last one is the only one which requires "skill" to pull off regularly. you probably dont want to hide the stamina bar for that.

To be specific, assuming default controls, you let go of circle sprint about when the stamina bar hits the S in "ST". I don't know if there's a way to do it with left stick click; I usually just switch to holding circle near the end of the bar.

With left stick you just press it in when it's about to run out iirc.

It's a feature, the game tells you about it at the very start when introducing you to it. It clearly says if you release from sprint before it fully depletes Noct will regain all his Stamina.
