It's as much ESP as anything in the "study".

lol. Religion with Egon > this.
ESP theories makes religion look like 100% fact.
Jesus talks to me all the time, you guys are just mad.
OP's article pissed me off enough that I went and looked.
I can find no reference to ESP in the journal of personality and social psychology any time in the most recent issue, or in any 2010 issue. I looked over the titles and abstracts for 2011 and december of 2010 and found nothing that even resembles the study described.
Edit: In fact, searching for ESP in the entire journal on EBSCOhost, which has every aritcle from this journal since the 70s, turns up 3 results, the latest one dating from 1981. They only have to do with paranormal beliefs, not abilities.
So I guess CBS is just straight making shit up.
You didn't see that coming?
On the contrary, I believe I predicted it my first post.
Shit!
There is an actual paper about ESP that came up in the LHC thread a while go, I think they just call it "psi" instead of "ESP". No idea if there's a difference. I'm guessing this was what CBS was talking about. It's definitely not a recent paper though considering there's already a paper out about how terrible the statistical methodology they used was.
50% of the time it works every time
ah shit didn't see that one coming
The best part of this thread has been how much of my posting profile has been shoe-horned in.
This should give you a big indicator that your thread is bad and you should feel bad.
Did a search for PSI in this journal for some time in the last 6 years and came up with nothing resembling what was described.
The heart of my furor comes from the CBS article more than anything that might have been published. It makes me fucking rage when news organizations report on science and see fit to not give the reader any way of investigating it for themselves. Honestly, we were lucky to even get the title of the journal. I really shouldn't have to demand they give the title of the aritcle, or its authors, or detail about their methodology and statistical results, but that's just me being logical again.
