    p90x workout

So my dad got me the p90x dvd workout collection. Are there any BG members with p90x experience? Specifically the ones who may have done it and actually got pretty damn fit from it.

I'm 148lbs 5.8. Not that big of a guy and not much on me to lose. Spring time is coming up so I'd like to get fit and I've been hearing so many good things about p90x. I've got all the spare time in the world so I can definitely commit to working out daily however much is required.

I guess what I'm asking are the before and after pics advertise actually possible? I'm not looking to get SUPER DUPER ripped like some of those exaggerated before/after pics but I'm still curious if that's actually achievable.

    Also, is it EXTREME?

Aware of the bg fitness thread below but was looking to get an actual title out there for some to relate to.

Before/After pics are possible if you dedicate yourself 100%

P90X Classic is a 6-7day/week commitment that works just about every muscle group.

    It will destroy you.

In order to curb being destroyed, take whey protein within 30 minutes of finishing each exercise.

Be ready to feel the burn and watch your joints. Don't push through 100% unless you are really in that much shape; 'cause the two weeks will break you in.

    week 13 p90x <

    feels nice bro.

I'm not sure what to look for. When I load up the dvd is it users choice or is there some sort of program you've to follow? I know there's 12 exercises but are they meant to be done in a specific order or will I just pick and choose whatever I feel like. I feel that without guidelines I will fail at remotely succeeding.

There should be a program somewhere in the package that tells you what workouts to do over the course. They're usually broken down into 2-3 week "blocks" of workouts. I have a few programs for a lighter version of p90x that's meant for more cardio/weight loss. But like Valkrish said, you need to already be in good shape to hit p90x expecting to complete every session every day, it's pretty rough. You may want to make sure you have all of the little accessories too. Yoga really sucks at first if you're not flexible at all so you'll need some small tables or chairs to help at first. A rug or mat is good too for other parts of the workouts. Friends of mine who've done p90x all the way through have had some pretty impressive results.

    Good luck!

Valkrish pretty much nailed it. I've been doing P90X since last january, so I'm on my 4th round right now, and the changes have been crazy. Few pointers to consider while doing the program:

    - Follow the diet 100%. Your results will be affected 90% of what you fuel your body with.

    - The first 2 weeks will break you. I would highly suggest taking 2 weeks to go through all of the DVDs before starting the program so you aren't going through a heavy case of DOMS during your first week.

    - Equipment wise, you will need a chin up bar, set of dumbbells (highly recommend getting adjustable dumbbells) and a chin up bar. Also, a heart rate monitor to gauge your progress during any of the cardio workouts.

    - Write everything down. I have some good P90x spreadsheets I can PM you if you need em, just let me know.

    - Do not skip yoga, ever. If you feel like the P90X Yoga-X DVD is too long, I would suggest buying (torrenting lol) Tony's Patience Hummingbird. Its only 35 minutes instead of 90 minutes but the positions are kept much longer. Yoga will increase strength, flexibility and range of motion making better gains in your following workouts.

    - You will have days where you just feel like its too much. It can be mentally exhausting waking up and knowing you have plyometrics to do and you still cant feel your ass from the previous workout. Get out of your mind about it, and just show up and do it.

    - Out of all the foods I have tried pre-workout, oatmeal was the best, bar none. Low GI complex carbs so your body absorbs it slowly and lasts throughout your workout. Good pre-workout meal would be 1/2 cup oatmeal, 1 serving of greek yogurt and some fresh berries, an hour prior to your workout. Good balance of all 3 macronutrients.

    - During any exercise, focus on form. If you feel like your form is breaking, lower the weight or rest up for the next set.

    - Since you're gonna be doing so many chin ups and pull ups, there's a good chance your back will start to knot up. You have 3 recovery weeks throughout the program, I would suggest getting massaged at the beginning of those weeks to give your body a chance to recover for the following phase.

    - Get 7-8 hours of sleep every night. This is the time your body grows, so a good sleep is essential.

I could talk about P90x all day, but I'll leave it at that for now. Point is, if you work hard and are determined, you will become extremely fit. One thing though, you said you're 148 pounds, don't use the scale as an indicator of your results. At that height and weight, you will hardly see any difference on the scale, however your body composition will change. The sure fire way to see how you're doing is to measure yourself (neck, chest, waist, hips, biceps, upper leg, calves). Anywho, good luck with the program, if you have any questions, just PM me.

*edit* There are 3 programs: Lean, Classic and Doubles. Each of them has a different routine. It should be listed in your documentation, if not, I'll send you my work-out manager.

go to a park than lol.

meat said it the best. p90x is effective if you're unfamiliar with working out in general i guess, buts its a gimmick for the most part. You will get better results doing pull downs at LA fitness than you will using a pull up bar on your bathroom door

My sister is a fitness freak and her and her fiancé swear by p90x. She used to go to the gym everyday, running everyday etc. but she says that the regime is really all she needs now.
I have no experience with it but she did recommend it and say that it's perfect, especially if you have equipment at home. Good luck!

I disagree on the gimmick part. It is extremely effective if you follow it, more so than normal work outs that you see even some of the most buff people doing in the gym.

my boyfriend is by no means a fitness freak or whatever, but about 2? years ago he spent about 8 months following the p90x regime. he was hawt, and i wish he had stuck with it and kept those abs. i will say he walks everyday though, and our diet was pretty good at the time as i was trying to lose preggo baggage.
so in summery: you get what you put into it?

P90X is effective for anyone, be it your first time in the gym or if you've been going for years. There's nothing in the program that's easy, because if it is, you aren't pushing yourself hard enough. My brother, who's been going to the gym for years, and trains in MMA, decided to do Plyometrics with me, and he had that "home workouts are gay" attitude. 60 minutes later, he's gasping for air, legs shaking, going wtf just happened. So he now incorporates some of the workouts into his schedule because he finds the added muscle endurance helps him tremendously with his Judo sessions.

It honestly comes down to your goals. Trying to bulk up? Hell no. Unless you modify the fuck out of the program. If your goals are sports oriented, then it will get you in excellent shape. Either way, I haven't met a soul who's gone through 3 months of this and said it was a waste of time.

don't think it was mentioned, but along with a chair, mat, dumbbells and a chin up bar, you should also invest in push-up bars. Or maybe you can use your dumbbells as push-up bars. You'll be doing hundreds of push ups during the chest workout (or trying to atleast) so it can fuck up your wrists if you aren't careful.

unsurprisingly, doing p90x will (possibly) only make you an expert on doing p90x, not fitness in general. Anyone who tells you that p90x is superior to every other routine is either retarded or getting paid to say it on the p90x infomercial. P90x is a cutting routine and works well for that purpose, but there are plenty of other routines out there that are more effective (and plenty that are less effective). The main draw to p90x is that it's somewhat neatly packaged and can be easily pirated and followed at home without going to a gym.

That said, if you're serious about building muscle (and not losing fat) and insist upon only doing p90x you are definitely doing it wrong.

Its just another workout/diet program that if followed with a good sense of discipline, intensity and follow through, will net you good results. It will by no means make you huge, but it's not intended for that. Any good workout routine that you push your self as hard as you can go is going to net good results. You can be a bitch and half ass P90x and it wont do shit. Just the same if you go to the gym and lift, be a bitch and not put out, you aren't going to get anything out of it.
