Potential Threat: Of course I would be the one to get hit

I recently received a message from a friend to apply for a product. However, it turns out they were recently hacked, and in fact, shortly after receiving the message, their account is no longer available. The application for the product asked for name, email, phone (Home and cell), and mail address (I gave them a school address though).

Let's start with the preliminary stuff: Yes, I know it was a bad idea.

That said, what can they do and what should I do in anticipation? Thus far, I have received one email and one text message from them. I've placed the email in my spam filter. I hope I don't need to change my PW since that lasted me a legacy.

All youll get is some spam.

Block email address/phone number as you get them.
Sign up at https://www.donotcall.gov/
If they still call/txt, you can file a complaint after 31 days.

Nothing you can do about their email spam aside from just blocking/ignoring, and unsubscribe if possible.

See, they did have an unsubscribe feature (I checked privacy policies and such before entering info and it seemed like any other retailer such as orbitz). Is it safe to use that? All it asks for is my email it seems.
Also, thanks about that phone link, I REALLY need that. Me waking up to 6am calls is not cool.

Most unsubscribe features are legit, and should only ask for your email.

I hate to pull a R3, but someone from the "place" (w/e you call the scamsite) called me today and asked what product I requested and told me it would arrive by fedex. He then tried to ask for more information, but I said I had to leave. Am I safe just by denying him the information or should I be concerned about the fedex part? Or was it just a part of the story?

Could be part of the scam to get some info, but could also be one of those scams where if you dont send something back from their package, theyll charge you.

A few ive encountered at the businesses ive worked at send letters of confirmation or something to the tune of if you dont reply to their message, or if you accept their "free" magazine, theyll charge you a couple of hundred dollars. If you dont, theyll "file a suit", and scare you in to paying them. If you do get a fedex package that youre not expecting you can deny it, return to sender, etc.

You can also file a complaint (might as well now) to [email protected] tell them whats up, and give them any info you have on the people trying to scam.
