I couldn't remember if/where it had already been posted about the Utah elementary school that trashed the lunches for the kids that had delinquent lunch accounts, but it seems a p. okay guy stepped up and paid up all of the back-owed accounts with his own money: http://myfox8.com/2014/02/06/man-ste...ount-balances/
HOUSTON — A man, upset after hearing about a Utah school that trashed lunches for students with delinquent lunch account balances, paid off 60 negative lunch account balances at a Houston elementary school this week.
Kenny Thompson, a longtime school tutor, said he felt the need to act after hearing about the incident in Utah, he told KPRC.
“I’m like, ‘Wow. I know that’s probably a situation at my school, and the school my son goes to, and the other schools I mentor at.’ So I came in and inquired about it,” Thompson said.
Thompson learned that many kids at Houston’s Valley Oaks Elementary School were already on a reduced lunch. Many have parents that can’t afford daily meals that cost 40 cents. That’s when Thompson took $465 of his own money and paid off the lunch accounts for 60 children.
“These are elementary school kids,” he said. “They don’t need to be worried about finances. They need to be worried about what grade they got in spelling.”
Thompson said many students that have negative balances will skip the lunch line to avoid the embarrassment. He hopes this will give them the confidence they deserve and the nutrition they need.
“When I left the building knowing that they were getting fed, they didn’t have that stress. The best money I ever spent,” he said.
good on that guy. i'll have to remember that for when i'm a genius billionaire playboy philanthropist.
seems like a much better way to give money instead of random charity X
Stolen Stradivarius violin found safe in Milwaukee attic

Suspects Universal Knowledge Allah (left) and Salah Joneshttp://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-26077518A Stradivarius violin stolen in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and valued at $5m (£3m) has been found in a suitcase in an attic in the city, authorities say.
The 300-year-old instrument had been taken from a symphony concertmaster to whom it had been lent.
Two men aged 41 and 36 and a 32-year-old woman have been arrested in connection with the theft.
Police followed tips and information on a stun gun used in the robbery to trace the violin.
Milwaukee police chief Edward Flynn said the instrument appeared to be in good condition.
One suspect, 36-year-old barber Universal Knowledge Allah, is believed to have purchased the stun gun.
Authorities received an independent tip on another suspect, Salah Jones, 41, who had been convicted of stealing a $25,000 statue from a Milwaukee gallery in 1995.
At least one of the suspects was expected to be charged on Friday, Milwaukee District Attorney John Chisholm said.
The violin, said to be in good condition, is set to be returned to its anonymous owner on Thursday.
Police say a robber used a stun gun on Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra concertmaster Frank Almond in a church car park after a performance on 27 January, then fled with the violin.
Mr Almond was knocked to the ground but was not seriously hurt. The case in which he kept the instrument was later found.
Mr Almond thanked law enforcement for their "outstanding work" in a statement.
"I could not have imagined a better outcome for this particular chapter in the violin's life and look forward to having it in my hands as soon as possible," he said.
The instrument, known as the Lipinski Strad, was built in 1715 by Antonio Stradivari, widely considered the greatest violin maker in history.
The Lipinski Strad was formerly owned by Polish violinist Karol Lipinski and 18th Century virtuoso Giuseppe Tartini.
Universal Knowledge Allah...lol

So last night between 9-11 PM I was getting a fairly constant stream of hate calls from a variety of different people using blocked numbers or untraceable voip. Several of them included fairly graphic death threats, so it wasn’t a lot of fun.
It was clear they were related to the pieces I’ve written for the National Post, and my appearance on Sun News this week. It was also clear that they were originating from anti-Muslim racists, which made sense because I’d been featured on a site called “barenaked Islam” where I’d been branded what I suppose amounts to a race traitor.
I made a police report after the first death threat, but they told me it might take a couple weeks for an investigator to be in touch, unless I thought my life was in danger, which it obviously wasn’t.
After around ten of these, I get another blocked call. I wasn’t going to answer, but I did for some reason. I didn’t say anything. The voice on the other end goes “Sir?”
I think it’s a ploy, so I stay silent. I have the call on speaker with my roommate and a friend there.
“Sir, are you getting threatening calls?”
Now I’m confused.
“I can tell you how to stop them” he says.
“Okay, tell me how to stop it” I still think this is one of them, using a different angle.
“Your number has been posted on a private chat room for racists named ‘Heaven.’ It’s nothing to worry about, they’re not serious or a real threat.
The next call you get tell them this exact phrase: “I know you’re Heaven” - they’ll freak right out and won’t bother you again.”
“Thank you” I say and then he hangs up. I imagine he wouldn’t have given it to me but I was too shocked to even ask for his name.
A few minutes later I get another call. The usual, lots of yelling. I say “I know you’re Heaven. I know more about you than you know about me. These calls end or there will be consequences.”
Silence. He hangs up (They were all men, of course).
I got one more call, maybe a minute later, then not a single one since.
I have no idea who my anon benefactor is, but it seems clear that whoever he is he is not law enforcement, but regularly patrols the dark web. He’d have to to have found this so fast.
Whoever you are, thank you. It makes me feel a lot better to know there are anons like him out there patrolling the dark web for our benefit

Someone was killed by ODing on grape soda they were forced to drink by their parents.
http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/c...-soda-22396061
An East Tennessee couple faces a murder charge, accused of forcing the man's 5-year-old daughter to drink more than 2 liters of grape soda and water, causing her brain to swell and rupture, authorities said.
According to the Hawkins County Sheriff's Office and the autopsy report, Alexa Linboom was brought in to the emergency room on Jan. 1, 2012, by her father, Randall Vaughn, and his wife, Mary Vaughn.
The girl was blue and unresponsive with "an abnormal body posture that indicates severe brain damage," according to the autopsy, which was completed in July 2013.
The Vaughns were arrested on Wednesday and were being held at the Hawkins County Jail on a $500,000 bond each. Officials did not know whether the Vaughns had hired an attorney. Their arraignment was scheduled for Friday morning.
An investigation revealed the girl had been forced to drink approximately 2.4 liters of water and soda over one to two hours as punishment. The massive intake of fluid caused her brain to swell and herniate.
According to the autopsy, when she was forced to drink all that liquid, she began vomiting, urinated on herself and asked to take a bath.
"Outside of the bathtub, she tried to eat oatmeal with assistance then started clenching her hands." She arrived at the hospital about 2 to 3 hours later.
"Caretakers told hospital staff that during the ride to the hospital, she sat up in the vehicle and played patty cake," according to the autopsy.
She was transported by air to a regional hospital where she was pronounced brain dead two days later.
The autopsy states that the girl had moved to Tennessee to live with her father about three months before her death. The move was prompted by allegations of neglect at her previous home.
A pediatric check-up about three months before her death had shown no significant problems. She was taken to an outpatient clinic about a month before her death for excessive thirst, urination and eating, but nothing was found to be wrong with her.
According to the autopsy, "Other adults who had regular contact with the child before and after her move to Tennessee describe her as a normal, healthy child and did not notice any unusual eating, drinking habits and that she did not wet her pants at school."
An obituary for the child said, "Some of the things that brought enjoyment to her life was coloring, playing with her Barbie dolls, her love of animals, but her most joy came when playing with her brothers and sisters."
Tennessee Department of Children's Services spokesman Rob Johnson confirmed that Alexa had lived in the home with five other children, some of whom were siblings and some of whom were half-siblings. The other children were removed from the house in Feb. 2013 and remain in DCS custody.

5 die after wrong-way crash on I-275 in Tampa in night of several fatal crashes
TAMPA — Five people were killed in a fiery crash overnight on Interstate 275 in north Tampa after an SUV going the wrong way on the highway plowed into another car, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash was one of several that killed eight people in one of the worst weekends on Tampa Bay roadways in recent memory.
The driver of a 2001 Ford Expedition was killed, and the four people in the Hyundai Sonata it hit were killed.
The crash occurred at 2:12 a.m. just north of the Busch Boulevard exit, the FHP said. Authorities said the driver of the Expedition was headed southbound in the northbound lanes of I-275 when it hit the Hyundai head on in the center lane. Four men in the car, ages 20-21 died at the scene. The Expedition caught fire and the driver was also killed. No identities have been released pending notification of next of kin.
The Hyundai was headed up an incline and was near its crest when the collision occurred, so it appears the driver would have had little time to react to the wrong-way vehicle.
"Five people are dead. It doesn't get much more severe than that," said FHP spokesman Steve Gaskins.
The accident resulted in the closing of northbound I-275 for several hours, but the interstate was reopened about 7 a.m., according to the FHP.
The I-275 accident was not the only deadly crash overnight.
Two people were killed in an accident at Bloomingdale and Kings avenues in Brandon. About 4:30 a.m., a car was speeding east on Bloomingdale, according to Hillsborough sheriff's officials. The car left the road to the south and struck a power pole, breaking the pole and the car in half. The car continued east in two pieces. Both the driver and passenger died. No names have been released in that crash yet, pending notification of next of kin.
Dali Drive to Bloomingdale Avenue and Kings Avenue to Bloomingdale were expected to be shut down until at least mid-morning Sunday while TECO replaces the power pole.
Meanwhile the FHP was investigating another fatal crash in Carrollwood, which occurred at 3:13 a.m. Joel Baxter Cooper, 24, was speeding south in a Yamaha motorcycle on Dale Mabry Highway in the center lane, the FHP said. A Hyundai Sonata driven by 21-year-old Michele Lopez was traveling west on Fletcher Avenue in the inside lane. A third vehicle, a Chevrolet Equinox, was stopped at a red light traveling east on S Village Drive.
When the light turned red on Dale Mabry Cooper ran the red light, the FHP said. The motorcycle hit the Hyundai. It then crashed into a concrete wall and a tree. The Hyundai kept moving west and hit the Chevy. Cooper died at the scene. He was wearing a helmet.
An accident with serious injuries occurred in Pasco County. The FHP said that a BMW driven by Hilbrand Buurma of Bradenton was headed south on Saddlebrook Way approaching Ainsworth Lane about 2:30 a.m. A Chevrolet Equinox driven by Linda Lewis of Wesley Chapel was traveling south on Saddlebrook Way. Buurma attempted to pass another car and crashed head-on into Lewis' car. A passenger in the BMW, Amanda Stetler, sustained serious injuries and was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa.
All the investigations are continuing. Return to tampabay.com for updates.

Multiple zoos and even one private individual offered to take it but all were turned down.(CNN) -- An online petition to save a healthy young giraffe from death has failed, despite thousands of signatures from animal lovers.
Copenhagen Zoo said it euthanized the male, named Marius, on Sunday because of a duty to avoid inbreeding.
After an autopsy, "Marius" was dismembered in front of a zoo audience that included children, and fed to the zoo's lions.
Despite online uproar over the move and reports of last-minute attempts to save the animal, the zoo in the Danish capital said it had no place for Marius in its giraffe herd.
"Our giraffes are part of an international breeding program, which has a purpose of ensuring a sound and healthy population of giraffes," Bengt Holst, scientific director at Copenhagen Zoo, told CNN. "It can only be done by matching the genetic composition of the various animals with the available space. ... When giraffes breed as well as they do now, then you will inevitably run into so-called surplus problems now and then."
