i dont understand the science behind this either, but i know its not like a drain type effect like you see with manmade whirlpools throughout the US. From what i see is that water is entering and leaving all at once from the cracks left under the depths? which spirals the water and forces it to move in a whirling motion. i really dont know 100% im just taking a guess. miz and woozie are the science fiends here. im just a wannabe

anyway I don't really know what to say about this, it's pretty terrible. I haven't gotten any work done today, I've spent the whole morning browsing forums, watching videos, and reading news articles. I took a couple of calls and quickly realized it was a bad idea, I was preoccupied with thoughts of the tragedy the whole time and could barely fake an interest in the customer's bullshit (which normally I am good at).

at least the one friend I have in Japan is okay, thankfully she was pretty far from the epicenter (I think... I'm not 100% certain on where she lives now that she moved out of Tokyo).

I'm gonna guess a wider but less forceful tide coming in from the upper right hitting a narrower but more forceful tide from the bottom left. This causes the wider tide to buckle in the middle and wrap around the narrower more powerful tide on its weaker sides. So you end up with opposing spirals.
